I've been a huge fan of Craig's era so far, I even thought Quantum of Solace was ok. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect out of this, but my initial impression is that it was what you'd think of when you'd picture a typical run-of-the-mill Bond movie. This isn't a bad film like so many seem to say, but at the same time you can easily notice when the quality is dipping in this one. The first 60% or so of this movie is great, engaging and is close to Skyfall's level, but like everyone else says the movie wasn't really sure how it wanted to wrap things up and got a bit sluggish. Bits of the end are still decent, but you feel like the third act was sort of quickly pushed through without any writing editing or revisions and overall feels rather tacked on.
Where the movie was guilty of focusing too much on things that we didn't care about (pushing for a new technological spy age, the 007 agency being put on halt), it was equally guilty of not putting enough time into the villian plot and what could have been an impactful backstory to Bond's background and sort of skims over the entire thing.
The overall film felt deliberately slower and a bit more tired compared to Craig's other outings, and in my interpretation this is intentional to reflect Bond's seemingly subtle reluctance throughout this movie to carry out what he needs to do. The way this movie ends definitely provided me the impression that Craig is worn out from the role and is presenting his final bow as he literally drives off. It even felt like a natural closing point for the 007 franchise to end entirely. I'm curious to see if they can somehow find an organic way for another Craig installment at this point.
This was still a solid Bond flick as it was. Not at the level of Casino Royale and Skyfall, but then again not many bond films can be.
