We’ll start by exploring the reasons behind this common behavior — from over-stimulation to simple reinforcement (because, let’s be honest, it works!). You’ll learn why we need to normalize greetings and make meeting people a little less exciting.
Then, we’ll get hands-on with skill-building. I’ll walk you through teaching your dog to “sit to say please” — the foundation for polite greetings — and introduce the Turn Around Game, first off-leash and then on-leash, with two easy-to-follow video demonstrations.
We’ll also talk about what to do when your dog makes a mistake. Plus, we’ll go over the Proper Greet, both when you have a helper and when you’re practicing solo (with another helpful video).
Finally, we’ll wrap it all up by connecting these skills to real-world success — and how teaching calm, proper greetings can help keep dogs in happy homes and out of shelters.
