Welcome to the fourteenth episode of A History of Literary Criticism. Today’s episode discusses The Maxims of Ptahhotep. The structure of today’s episode is a little different, because the text is quite short and this is the only text to be included, so far, from Ancient Egypt. So first I’ll discuss the social context and then the wisdom literature genre of which The Maxims of Ptahhotep is an example; then I’ll summarize the text and its relationship with Abrams’ triangle.

Brilliant Stuff, but some episodes need Transcripts

First of all, I would really love to commend the brilliant work you are doing with the podcast.

It is extremely insightful as well as crisp — something that eludes usual literature teaching.

However, I couldn't help but notice that the Transcripts (and Notes) for Episodes 3 and 4 (Aristotle's Poetics & Rhetoric) are missing from your website.

You guys would be doing me a brilliant favour by directing me to the Transcripts, because I tend to read them while listening to the podcast.

Hoping to hear from you soon. And please keep giving us more episodes. Spreading knowledge to the world is such an amazing thing.
