In case I would have stopped the show for a few moments and resume, the audio plays from there and also from where I stopped previously.

I've never seen a worse network than Disney Hotstar. The network is so greedy that even paid members are shown ads, and whenever I watch cricket, after a while without touching the screen, the match starts streaming on an older time stamp and you need to click on live tv to get live again. This happens so often that I've stopped watching matches on Hotstar and, even though I have a Hotstar subscription, I watch matches on JioTV, which streams much more smoothly and without ads. Today, I was watching the show "The Night Manager," and it buffered so much that I checked my Internet speed and saw that it was 100mbps+ on my Internet fibre. Because my experience was so terrible, I can confidently say that Hotstar is the worst and most greedy OTT platform in existence.

But after the latest update version of your app, I face some issues in that your app. I your app you are providing three types of video quality. Low, Medium, and High. I have experienced and reported this issue multiple times and yet no sign of fixing this bug. While watching cricket Video keeps resetting back to old overs again and again. I had to keep pressing “go live” to refresh and watch live content. Just to put icing on the cake sometimes Hotstar puts an add link blocking the “go live” button . Then you can’t even get to live content. Pathetic performance by the app. Expected better performance from Hotstar which has been a major partner for all most all the ICC events and IPL since half a decade.

One of the worst app experiences on iPad. They have seriously good content all the old movies I saw on Star Movies, all the Disney content. At times I’m pleasantly surprised when surfing through to find one of those memorable movies from my childhood.
But the App DOES NOT help and it paints the content in the worst light possible. There is no search feature or filtering options. All the good content is found by accident. App loses context when you leave it. For series it shows the first few episodes in the carousel and there is no easy way to see the entire listing of episodes in the season. And on and on and on … pathetic app and not something you would expect from the likes of a global entertainment behemoth like Disney.
App does not do justice to the awesome content available on the platform. My 2 cents: fire the app developers.

Honestly, this streaming app is good and provides us the content we want to watch but “LATE!” The main reason why I subscribed this streaming app to watch “cook with comali” but I see no use in purchasing as the episodes are released/ uploaded late (almost majority of the show’s episode are delayed). I was really anticipated to watch Cook with comali final episode, but I could watch because the episode was delayed and I lost all my excitement to watch the final episode. This is not really the first time I am experiencing this crap... As this is practice continued for long time now (from the company side) I really don't recommend you to watch or subscribe Hotstar, better you can watch while the show gets aired.
I hope this practice from company's side can be avoided as the viewers are losing interest on the waiting time.

First of all good app. But it’s very buggy.
And second, It has some major issues I’d like to enlist.
1. There is a limit on how many DEVICES I can “Log in” too: This is the most absurd one. It’s not like this on ANY other platform. They regulate the number of SCREENS not devices. Please roll back this condition. It’s killing the enjoyment of multi-device compatibility and handoff from diff devices.
2. Hotstar does not have any compatibility any “Watch-party” type services: it’s been 2 years into the pandemic. Disney + in its international version introduced GroupWatch.
Please at least add SharePlay compatibility.
3. The video when loading heavy files will suddenly lag behind audio sometimes. You need to kill the app then start again. But this one is minor.
4. Where did all the live channels go? I actually loved that I got watch the news channels on Hotstar on the smart Tv app. Now it’s all gone. God knows why ? .
It is my humble request to please stop reducing the services provided for paying customers.

Downloaded Content Expires Before Watching

The downloaded content is getting expired even before it’s watched. I downloaded a few wed series episodes the other day and the following day they are showing as expired, that is so pathetic. All the internet data is going in vain just because of this app’s malfunctions or whatever . And several other things are also not up to the basic standards either. If some of the content I really wish to watch is available in Hotstar then it will be a nightmare and I always wish that content is available in Netflix or in prime at least. I can understand restricting simultaneous viewing, but restricting logins to 2 devices is moronic. I have a mobile and a tablet. But every time I login from my computer for a bigger screen, it logs me out from either of the 2 devices. These guys can’t even understand the difference between simultaneous viewing and just logging in.
Advertisements are fine, but they way they are embedded is senseless. Imaging you are seeing a series and for a boring scene you fast forward 10 mins, you will get an ad. You fast forward another 10 mins and you will get another ad. Basically if you just scrub through a 30 min episode in 10 min you will set get all the 5 or 7 ad slots.
Just plain greed.

I stream on my iPad pro, and there is this huge bug, when the app is open and even if I don’t play anything, the screen will stay on for hours till the battery dies, even if I pause, the screen will never turn off unless I press the power button. Please fix this! Its a huge problem. Also I happen to fall asleep while watching, and the streams never stop, auto play is a good feature but it is not done in a right way, there should be some notification after 1-2 hours of continuous play to make sure if the user is still watching and turn off the display if there is no response. Like netflix. Its disappointing that these basic features are not implemented even still! It feel like a neglected experience even after paying for the most expensive subscription options.

I have to login everytime to this app if I am using hotstar on more than 2 device. But this thing is so bad. A same person can have multiple devices, tv, laptop, mobile, tablet. Its his/her choice from where he/she wants to use hotstar. Please remove this limitation on your app its very frustrating. Instead it should be something like netflix were I can register multiple devices on one account but at a time can use netflix with 4 devices only. Similarly you should allow login with multiple devices for same account but allow only 2 devices to watch hotstar at a time(as per the 899 plan).
Please do this change as its really frustrating. As everytime I have to login to hostar to use it.

I had purchased membership on 30th Jan 2022. I could t restore the subscription via the application. When I spoke to one of the Hotstar customer care, they blamed apple payment issues. When I spoke to apple, they are saying deepak to Hotstar customer care. So far none of the teams have responded to my problem. I made the payment got an invoice from apple. The new changes to plans have made it worse. It doesn’t let you stay logged in on multiple device even if you are not watching any premium content. I have plan for 2 devices but I can only stay logged in on 2 devices at a time so if I login on tv I have to log in on mobile first and then use it to login tv and when I try to use it for 2 tvs, it will log out from either of them because 1 device is mobile which is needed to log in on tv. And when you buy plan it will show you watch premium content on this many devices but no info about staying logged in. Just a bunch of retards trying to milk all the customers as much as they can

This is the Worst Video Streaming App in My Mobile. All other video streaming apps are far better in performance provided the same internet bandwidth. In this App, most of the time it is buffering and throws playback error frequently. Continue watching feature malfunctions frequently. Each and every time, when video is resumed after playback error, ads will be played and sometimes video starts playing from the beginning. I wonder if this is their tactics to play ads frequently ! Sometimes even these ads buffer and 10 seconds as will play for 30 seconds and more. Due to the buffering issue, each and every content takes double or triple the actual time to watch it ! I like the content. Only disappointed with very untimely advertisements. They are very frequent that if i get a call in between the program and then resume the program advs will start again. If my wifi disconnects and then resumes back again advs starts. Some times after advertisement screen blanks our where i have to go back and resume the video again then advs starts again. All the advertisements repeated are really really use less and boring. Now after seeing them repeatedly I’m getting negative feeling about those brands and never going to buy them.
Hotstar team, i can understand that this is the way you can earn. But same time you have to make sure that they are not making customers irritated and get negative feelings about the brands.
Now a days I’m getting most of the content from other sources as well and so I’m not preferring to use Hotstar.

I have a premium subscription and I should be able to stream 4k quality but their server is so bad that I hardly get 360p or 480p at the max (I do have a super fast broadband connection, i can stream 4k in all the other ott platforms). It logs me out every time I exit the app and I need to contact my brother every time for an OTP to log me in. I contacted them via phone, email, live WhatsApp chat and also via the app feedback page but no one could solve my problem nor they offered me a refund.
I would not recommend you to buy the premium even though it is cheap it’s still not worth it for the quality they provide.
I was happy to pay them a higher amount than their premium cost for me to get email and password login with 4k streaming but unfortunately, they don’t have that option yet So, it’s definitely not worth the buy.

Really bad experience for Apple users. 1)Airplay- does not work with a few shows like bad batch. When you do try to airplay to Apple TV, it just says playback error. 2) when I try to airplay audio to homepod, it works well for the first few minutes and then just starts playing some random audio from random episode even though the video is playing alright on screen. 3) pause and play controls should be single tap. Not double. Tapping Centre of the screen once should pause/play. 3) forward/ rewind should be done with a swipe on the screen. 4) it’s time Disney+ should be added as a subscription channel in Apple TV+ app.

First of all they give you an option to select preferred language at the start and once you select the requisite language the content language shown on the Home Screen are of different language. If you connect with the support on WhatsApp chat with a human the response is we do not have this feature on the app at the moment then why ask the preferred language at the beginning?? The chat agent name whom I spoke to was Nagma. Second thing is I’m unable to download any content on my phone as it keeps on saying retry download. Just to be clear I’m able to download any thing and everything on other platforms so my wifi is perfectly fine. It’s just waste of time and money on this app. Other apps may cost more but they do have a support more educated and works perfectly fine without any issues. I would rather spend more than to have a pathetic experience.

The app has worked well from me. I have been a paying member for three or so years at this point. Recently, the app has begun to demand a phone number to be linked to even open at all. This is the worst feature imaginable for me. Now, I have no access to the app due to the fact that the email Id was lost quite a while ago, and due to the limitations of my experience with online banking I have been unable to provide proof of payment. This has led in a complete and utterly disappointing waste of money and a sad experience, since I will not be paying the sum again for a service that feels like I have been scammed out of hard earned money. As a long time consumer, I am very disappointed. I hope the forced need of a phone number to be linked is removed eventually. But even so, streaming time will have been lost. Like I’ve said , I’m very disappointed.

I upgraded to yearly plan from monthly plan in August, but I m being charged for monthly plan for the last 4 months (aug,sept,oct,nov) even after I was charged for the yearly plan. I can see both the plans active on my profile page simultaneously on the app, which means I used the same email if and the same credit card.
This is only possible due to poorly coded app and very poorly managed financial practices. The switch from monthly to yearly should be seem less and automated. Now I m getting answers like, you forgot to cancel the subscription - no I did not, coz I did not want to cancel the subscription, rather upgrade it.
Second answer I got was that you family member must have opted for the monthly plan without your knowledge - this is crazy, there can be only one plan active on an account monthly or annual. Please refund my money for the last 4 months or refund my money for the annual subscription.

The iOS app’s TV cast feature has following major issues with chromecast :
1) when we click on cast button, the trailer auto play feature within app for the selected video keeps playing in background, making it irritating to select a video and play on TV through cast
2) the play timeline is almost unusable to seek forward or backward by desired length, only +/- 10 buttons work and that too with lot of lag. If I want to move forward by 10mins, I almost give up watching it as the app keeps getting stuck on trying to use play timeline bar
3) if I open the app again while some cast is already in progress and try to select a different video, the new videos keep auto-playing trailers in background which is again very annoying

Unusable with tvOS on Apple TV

The mobile app is great, I don’t have any serious issues to report with. But I have version 7.5 on my Apple TV with tvOS 14.2 and it is so buggy that it has rendered my Apple TV unusable with Hotstar. When you open the app, the app starts playing the audio for the video you last watched which overlays with the current selection even if the current selection is simply a preview. You move to another app, the audio for this new video overlaps with the previous two and now you have three audios playing mixed up. Morr and more audios get merged as you keep scrolling through videos.
The biggest problem is it never resolves, even after restarting the Apple TV, ultimately cannot be used at all. Hotstar, please fix it.

Hotstar and disney definitely has some gud content to watch and should give full 5 for it. The reason I am giving 4 stars is to highlight the bug you guys have in your TV App (I am using Samsung Tizen OS). The bug is related to forward/backward. When you press the button to go forward or backward you have to press twice (No action would happen in 1 press) and when we press the button twice the speed is 3* whether going back or forward.
I believe you should add a option to rewind or forward probably by 10/30 seconds that will help the overall experience.

Because it’s not my fault I’d paid full amount for my subscription and if you can’t provide services then please shut your brand . And for refund when I GoTo iTunes page it says contact app developer. You’re saying contact iTunes . This means we as customers are stupid that we trust you and buy subscriptions . User interface

The user interface to your application is really annoying. For example, if I have to search some previous episode of any series, I will have to scroll back towards left to see that previous episode.
Scrolling back to episode 1 of a 22 episode season is very annoying, especially when your interface works on left to right scrolling .In fact, while you are scrolling, the app suddenly takes you back to the current episode and you will have to again do the scrolling thing . If a user wants to see some previous episode, he/she not scroll towards left but rather all the episodes should come in vertical direction.

I’ve been a hotstar premium subscriber since the inception of hotstar. Till now I’ve had no issues with the app but recently since the update to iPad OS 13.5.1 has rolled out, I’ve been having trouble with the pause, fast forward and backward (10 seconds up and down) controls in the app.
The problem is that there is a huge delay in the press and the action being performed- fast forward and backward buttons have lag times and incase there are multiple presses to quickly go 30-40 seconds up or down, the whole app freezes and does not respond. One has to quit the app and restart it. This problem is limited to my iPads only, haven’t faced similar issues when I use the web version on my laptop or on my tv or even on my PS4.
For reference I use an iPad Pro 2018 edition as well as an iPad mini 4. The problem is prevalent on both the models. So it can’t be a hardware issue. Please team hotstar try to address this at the earliest.

Great Content, Bad App Experience

Hotstar, now with Disney has some of the best shows to offer. 3 stars are all for the content provided.
But there are many issues with this app with respect to the user experience.
For one, do let us know the selected resolution, low, medium and high makes no sense and makes it difficult to predict how much data would be used by streaming a episode.
Secondly, the iPad app keeps logging me out, this did not use to happen before and is a new issue. I use my Facebook credentials to log-in so you can look into this.
Lastly, do bring the skip intro feature. Also, when using on a desktop screen, whenever I go to the next episode, the screen should automatically go into full screen mode if that was pre selected

The app is great and there is wide variety of shows to watch and with the addition of Disney+ it’s become even better. But my only issue / problem is that there is not enough content on the Disney + side . Compared to USA there are A LOT of shows missing like the Simpsons , and a lot of Disney channel shows for like Jessie and Suite life on deck and the Wizards of Waverley place for example . Plz add more shows ASAP it would be of great help . I hope I can get a reply from the developers soon. Thank you

Hotstar used to be one of my favourite apps since it has such good content. Now that Disney has come in, i expected the app to get even better but unfortunately i was disappointed. As soon as I updated my app, my experience was absolutely garbage. There is no option to skip ads ( which would be fine if it was just a single ad) I have to watch 3 ads of around 20 seconds each before the actual video starts and of course that happens even in mid of an episode. I am a premium member and I don’t like the experience. the app is very slow which I blamed on my network initially before realising that prime and Netflix work absolutely fine on the same network.
Please improve the quality of videos and the entire app for a better user experience!

I believe that some time back, an announcement was made saying that Hotstar users would be able to access all of the content available on Disney+ from the 29th of March. I have checked both yesterday and today (29th and 30th March) and only one or two shows and a couple of movies available on Disney+ have been released so far. Please tell me if there is a delay in the release of the feature or if there is just a problem with my family’s account (premium membership plan) in general. So sorry for ranting about just a minor feature but I just wanted to know about the given issue.

Download issues for premium customers

Hot star download policies are really stupid to put it mildly.
1. A premium customer can not download same episode twice:
If I download an episode and I can only see 50 % in 2 days then I can NOT download the episode again. First of all I am a paying premium customer why can’t I have unlimited download like all other provides - prime video, Netflix. On top of it, I can’t download same episode again.
I download lot of prime videos and have never faced this issue, I can watch wherever and whenever I want, how many times I want.
If I have to put a clock of two days then it is stupid.
2. A premium customer has to see downloaded episode in 2 days. No other streaming platform has this restriction. It is irritating.
3.It take twice as much size as other streaming platforms to download and store in phone, I have screenshots to prove .
4. Many times after being downloaded, I try to play the episode and it says something is wrong and try again. I can not leave from home unless I double check if the downloaded episode is working without internet. It is irritating.
I complained on hot star support and they asked me 10 more questions, it’s like they want me to do the work and say my WiFi is bad of signal is bad or device is bad, while prime , Netflix download works wonderfully.
Very disappointed from download point of view for a paying customer.

I rated 2 star, because app missing lost of basic features, here is few points:
1. Lack of profile concepts for log in devices (adding, removal and most important thing is content filtering), now a days many people have iPhone, iPad, Mac, Smart TV, give option to control content based on age on devices, people don’t like all content to be shown on living room TV.
To prevent fraud and misuse, you can cap the number of login to 1 Mobile, 1 iPad/Tablet, 2 Smart TV, 2 Kids content login only and single session for website, if you wish collect additional 1 mobile login by paying little additional fee optional.
2. No content filtering based on age, recent update came with Kids Mode switch but without pin or password. Every kid knows how to use mobile, don’t you think they can enable again all contents?
3. Download limit to 5 video, this I can’t understand why only 5. If you are travelling and off course with Indian telecom pathetic internet speed, you can’t watch a single episode, you need to download as much as you can.
There are many but above 3 is topmost thing to correct first.

Extremely painful to switch devices

If I am watching something on my TV/Laptop at home and then go out and want to watch it in on my phone it is an extremely painful process to switch from TV/Laptop to phone and vice versa.
What is your solution? Change password? How many times do we change password? Can’t you create a pop up that every time we login from a new device you auto logout from previous logged in devices?
It is a horrible horrible experience to switch devices from home to work and then back from work to home.
Or atleast give options where you show which device are logged in and auto logout by a single button click.

I have faced following issues:
1. Loads of advertisements, i am not saying there should be no advertisements but there should be limited ads. Like 3 to 4 ads of 30 seconds are enough. Instead they are showing 5 ads of 70 to 110 seconds.
2. Whenever the ad finishes the screen go blank. I am not able to the further video. To watch further episode i need to reopen the app and i have watch that ad again.
I have one suggestion: people subscribes because they expect ad free movies and shows. We don't expect broadcast of serials before television. Its okay if you broadcast after television. You can't broadcast ad free shows for vip subscribers at least reduce the period of time, put a option to skip ad.

I am based out in Europe. I have downloaded the HotStar App from App Store. I was looking for online streaming. Once I opened the app and tried playing any love streaming, it redirected to subscription page where it was showing me the subscription plant monthly and yearly with amount in EURO. I have tried subscribing for 1 year. My amount is deducted and got message that my subscription is not active. Now when I try to play any live streaming, I am getting error that these contents are not available in your country.

Why the live sports content has low resolution while I play it on a the app? , I have no problem playing the same content in a browser. Earlier I used to do this , but now even I can’t watch sports content on browser, it simply just doesn’t play. Why don’t you fix it . I have seen many users experiencing the same thing and complaining about it for years now, but you haven’t fixed it yet. Why is it so that a sports content has 360p resolution in the app even if you put it on high quality option, but the same content has 1080p resolution in a browser?

Update 2nd June 19: There is no point in chest thumping to the world that you had xxx millions of concurrent users if all those users are dealt a blow below the belt on video quality. It appears Hotstar is taking their customers for granted. They know they have a monopoly as there are no competition offering the same content as they do (sports and HBO series). The video quality is pathetic. No matter how good internet connection is, the video quality is full of blemishes (pixelation). Hope someone higher up the food chain at Hotstar reads this and takes action.
Note: I used to watch the 2015 cricket World Cup through the ESPN app when I was in USA and I have to say that was 1000 times better than what these guys offer for quality. ESPN was not spotless but, their quality hiccups are few and far between.

This review is for the Hotstar app on Apple TV. The video quality is pathetic. Too much pixelation a.k.a MPEG noise(verify this while watching in a dark room). This is not expected quality when you pay for premium content. When you mention HD quality I expect real full HD not some HD like quality. I’m on a 90Mbps internet connection and doesn’t see this issue on other streaming apps I use on my Apple TV. Hope this issue is rectified soon.

Illogical restrictions

There are two restrictions to downloading contents that I have experienced so far.
1. You can download only 5 files at a time. While it’s extremely primitive, this one is still understandable as they wouldn’t want ppl to download and then not renew premium etc...
2. Once downloaded and deleted content can not be downloaded again. I am at loss as to why this exists? It’s like they Dnt want you to watch the same content twice?? What’s the logic behind this?
In addition there are bugs coz of which sometimes the download doesn’t complete. The only option in that case is to possible delete and download again. But the above logic prevents that from happening.
Can someone at Hotstar please check and correct this asap.

The previous version were so good. I've faced following issues:
1. Sometimes selection of video quality doesn't work. I tap on 'settings button' while video is playing. And the menu pops up. Then tap on 'Video Quality' and menu just hoes away. Nothing happens.
2. Video automatically switches between 180p, 360p and maybe even 720p even when 'Auto' is not selected.
3. Seek bar doesn't work the way its supposed to. When I scroll it to some other point it always jumps to different position.
4. This version has got some issues with internet connection. There always seems some issue with internet connection because sometimes there is lag between video and audio. Sometimes video just hangs and audio keeps playing. Sometimes app won't play video and keeps saying that app is not connected to internet.

There are no words I know of to describe the kind of work they have put into developing this
Application.
This app is a sad excuse for anything that streams video. I could actually make a list of the problems that are in this application.
1) Despite being a premium member I repeatedly have to sign in and confirm.
2) too many playback issues on TV, movies and live at times while watching the match the video not only gets stuck but becomes a boomerang.
3) wifi issues network issues and I have to restart the application to fix
4) despite setting the quality at the highest it for some reason plays at 144p. (I have a 100mbps connection and stream 4K Videos)
5) subtitles are NEVER NEVER NEVER in sync and sometimes just turn off.
This application is proof that star is nothing but scamming the premium users for their money and providing only the superficial services.
Unfortunately i have to watch live matches sometimes on my iPad so I have to use this application because no other app has EPL. I wish I could switch to some other app but unfortunately can't.
If the developers had even a little audacity they would see these reviews and apologise and provide a fix. Because all I see are one star reviews of this app complaining about what I wrote.

Hotstar for Apple TV is dumb

This review is specifically for Hotstar App for Apple TV. I find it lacks basic features like a login / user section. You can’t add a show or movie to WatchList from TV app. Most painfully it never remembers what was the last episode I watched and where I left an episode in between. It sometimes plays prelude videos like the logo intro of the studio which produced/ owned the show (example:HOOQ) but it plays that prelude video at worst quality and at very high volume. I don’t mind them making us watch the logo every time but it should at least play at a volume that is in sync with the actual video.
I was watching a live cricket match, for some reason I do not understand why I should watch Ads related to Hotstar Premium shows when I am already a Premium member.
Bottom line : you guys have lot of work to be done on Apple TV app. Hope you are getting the feedback and working on fixing things.

I have paid for watching paid videos and what ever it is in my wish . But I regularly face an issue stating that you are not authorised to watch this video as it’s from premium .. now what am I in this .. did I paid for watching some cartoon ?? I have contacted the customer service, I don’t want to blame the poor guys working over their to cover up the flaws of the people back to this . I will get the same reply to delete / uninstall the app and try to install in again . Yes that works . Is it only for 24 hrs ?? Because early in the morning again I have to repeat the whole procedure . How many time should I do that . Crazy.. can’t fix the issue and finding stupid reasons to cover up. If you guys are trying to level up your app . Try to fix the issues asap. Or else I’m sure that you will loose your customers .

Poor ccessibility features, a blot on inclusivity

Earlier, Hotstar used to be the only streaming site which was accessible to all and specially a person like me who is partially blind. I could access all movies, tv shows nd all their offerings through my text to speech software. But it has been so disappointing how the other services are becoming more and more accessible and hotstar has been on a downward spiral in this regard. Like it has become impossible to find anything on the app even through search option as everything is in thumbnail form without any description for the same below like earlier.
I will like to tell hotstar that we are also consumers and deserve equal attention, so i will seriously urge you guys to do the needful to make your service more accessible and inclusive. I relly hope you look into the same

Just don’t know what is the problem with this App. First and foremost the app is completely unstable and will always keep crashing right in the middle of video playback. Secondly the Watch and Play rewards are linked to your device so mind you if you uninstall the app you loose the rewards (and most probably you will have to at some stage). Thirdly if you manage to cross these hurdles then the app will throw some random gibberish error and you would be unable to claim your reward or play any video. Customer Care is even more pathetic than the app itself. They will simply suggest you to either uninstall and reinstall the app or try to access Hotstar via your laptop. Try to improve your app else uninstalling the app is the only visible solution

Would be nice to have few features added like multi-tasking support so that we could read news as we watch some sports. As far as movie content goes it has an ok amount of regional films. Coming to sports the previous dedicated app starsports was very good. For e.g. while watching cricket there was a timeline at the bottom allowing us to select any particular moment in the match to watch be it wicket or a boundary or some other important occasions. Would be great if that is brought back. The Starsports app looked more futuristic than the current one.
