I love the app, use it as much as I can, though to be honest, it’s hard to wean people off WhatsApp!
I have just one minor nit: when I call someone, their phone doesn’t ring. If they happen to be looking at their phone at that time, they’ll know there’s a call, but not otherwise. And this happens on both androids and iPhones.

I have installed the new updates from signal since it was prompting me to update. When I have updated the app, I no longer can open the app anymore. When I tried to open the app, it automatically crashes the app and closes itself. Feel terribly bad for using signal since it has not been tested throughly.

The signal app was awesome until I recently updated and then the signal won’t start at all. As a regular measure I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. To my surprise it now wants link to the earlier device just to update the data. Now please understand the device is same and how can I link my own device with QR code ? The local network is also ON. Now I am forced to take an option without IOS to use the app and then even my Note To Self chat is empty💔. Please help me restore my previous data I had save my most precious memories in my note to self 🥺

Signal is a great app, especially when one considers their privacy to be important. I’ve been using Signal since nearly a year and never have faced any issues as such. However, if the following features could be added / improved, it’d be a whole package. They are -
1. Addition of speed / tempo settings to voice messages.
2. Adding Siri support to send messages to a contact.
3. Improving the delivery time of read receipts. It takes over 2 seconds to receive a read receipt even though the other person has already read the message much earlier.

I have been using this app for a long time and I really like the way it is different from others. One suggestion is to add call notification while making group video calls. Please add options to add notification in the form of usual ringtones while making the group video calls. Many in the green are not informed with a pop up notification while making the group video call. Please enable usual video call notification in group video calls also. Would appreciate if you could make this possible , so that all people in thr group will be notified or gets alert to join the call.

Everything’s good: It’s open-source, goes through multiple audits from independent sources, is created by the founders of WhatsApp, has end to end encryption, ability to delete your account and what not.
It collects contact info, that too anonymously, so I don’t think that’s a big issue, however, anonymised IDs like Threema messenger would be a welcome move, rather than the compulsion of signing up using a phone number.
Would request them to improve upon audio & video aspect of call quality (including relayed calls), & most importantly, allow us the ability to upload encrypted backups of our chats to the cloud, and restore them when reinstalled (like WhatsApp). If you do this, a lot of people will happily migrate to Signal.
Hope to see this level of privacy in every aspect of our tech lives in the near future!

Loved it’s simplicity and privacy feature. But it should have a feature to show online status. That is to show whether someone is online or not. Also there is a problem with “verified” contact. Sometimes the contact gets automatically unverified and if we don’t notice it whatever message they sent during that time won’t get delivered and we won’t know it. This makes the other person think they are being ignored and other such confusions. Please rectify these problems and it will be a great app.

Of late I have had trouble with both voice and video calls through signal as the ringer never rings on time and you only get a missed call notification later on. Same for video call as it never goes through even on WiFi.
Messages sometimes remain in lag and are delivered only if one opens up the app that is notification doesn’t appear at all. I am not really bothered about having more stickers or status uploads but these are the very basic features that an messaging app is supposed to deliver seamlessly upon and which signal unfortunately has consistently been underdelivering for a while now!
Work on this promptly, please!

The app is really good! Love the simple and minimalist approach to the UI. One thing that kind of annoys me is when my iPhone is NOT on silent mode and I’m chatting with someone, the default notification sound plays when a new text arrives in the same chat. Please change that sound to something more subtle or simply a small haptic feedback instead of the default notification sound. Would love if you devs use the Taptic Engine for these purposes.
Also, as a suggestion or feature request, would love to see message effects with Haptic feedback like in iMessage. Would be great and would definitely encourage a lot of people to shift to this platform
Issues while using on desktop

I am trying to switch to signal app completely. There is WhatsApp web feature I am using very often to print documents. I was trying this with signal also. But it’s not simple as on WhatsApp. First I need to install desktop app. Again linking n unlinking is also an issue.
Suppose I am going to a cyber cafe or using someone else’s PC to print some documents. This becomes easy with WhatsApp web. I don’t need to install any app. Most important is that I can easily logout. I don’t need to worry about anything.
This is not the case with signal app. I need to install desktop app. Also, even after unlinking that device my chats are there in the app. Anybody can read. I need to clear everything.
I request the signal team to work on this feature and make it simple and convenient.

Hi, when we are looking at all media,, by long pressing or by selecting a old media file shared in chat history .. I should be able to go to that particular chat .. instantly .. currently this option is unavailable in Signal app.. please introduce this .. it’s very much needed. Also one should be able to mark chat conversations as favourites and should be able to go back and read that conversation with one click of a button.

When I checked battery stats Your app consumed 1/3rd of the battery over night even though I haven’t used it. Even in the day it consumes more than any other app.
There is so much lag in sending, receiving and loading messages. This includes texts, stickers, voice messages and media. Sometimes it takes half an hour to receive a message even though there is a very good internet connectivity on both ends.
App doesn’t work at all while using VPN.
Lots of bugs.

I’m using this for about 2 months now and there are still some bugs and stability issue that I’m facing. I’m using this app on iPhone SE 2020 iOS 14.4 and here are the following issues:
1) When I swipe right to go back from a current chat screen to chat list the swipe doesn’t take me to the chat list instead it swipes on particular message and pops my keyboard to reply that text.
2)When I swipe on a message and reply it with a sticker, the sticker is sent as a new chat and not as a reply to that particular message.
3) And while chatting the messages appear late and while the vibration of the received text is received instantly.
4)When we select ‘File’ attachment format it isn’t sent as a doc file or as a uncompressed image as in What’s app.
5)the app lags a lot while I’m using the app and also simultaneously using other apps.
6)Doesn’t feel smooth and it has lots of irregular slides and scrolls. Try to keep minimal app actions and make them smooth so that it feels premium.
7)Why this doesn’t have any widgets yet? Get some useful widgets for this app.
Overall it’s a good app.
Much preferred than what’s app.

Hey, I have been using signal for 3 months, The overall application is fine but there are few things where it lacks,
1 - Sometimes messages aren’t delivered due to server errors
2 - Video Calling is worst ( sorry being honest ) but it seriously not at all good. It just stops within call.
3 - Can’t select and reply to specific picture out of several images.

From the WhatsApp privacy controversy, I always have tried to use Signal most of the time and I try to use it mostly with all whom I can but the mai problem with this app is that the video or photo upload never ever succeeds on the first time. It takes half an hour for 10-15 photos upload and most the time when I check back it asks to send again. With the same phone and same internet speed I never face such issue with WhatsApp or any other app on my phone but Signal, it’s pathetic .! I just have given 3 stars only because of its privacy and nothing else otherwise it deserves 1 star because of its poor response.

From being able to silently send messages by a long press in Telegram to showing status (about) under each of the individual names from the contacts-lists itself in WhatsApp or coming up with Kaomoji like Windows instead of stickers which are puerile in meaning & aesthetic if not questioning the prospects & strength of Signal Privacy among the users - Signal App has an oversight, management & leadership problem deficiency.
These are only necessarily small areas of gaps to be filled, otherwise being able to send 2GB of individual files over Telegram, not only triumphs over WhatsApp’s (dominant) existence if not others as well like Discord but emails itself.
Have features or the capability first - a beggar doesn’t require security, simply marketing on the pillars of privacy has been sheer ignorance.

Pleased with the Signal private messaging app. Being double end encrypted, it deletes data from server, so you can also set to delete the messages after them being read. Our family and friends are using it. We can easily set up groups on Signal. Signal allows text, video, voice, MMS and SMS. No advertising. No tracking. Much improved security and privacy compared to the old WhatsApp messenger.

Dear Signal Team I would like to inform that main draw back of app is we don’t know when a person is online or not so we can’t interact with that person. My suggestion is that green icon should be displayed when a person is online. It will be very easy to interact in that case. The settings of online should be switched on or off from main menu. Moreover if we don’t want a particular Person from our signal contact list to see our online status then we should be also be able to do that. Apart from this there should be feature of status which should be provided. The feature of status should be private one and there should be no provision of Everyone in this. I would request to provide cloud backup feature as well to be able to transfer data in case of phone change. I know you have not provided this feature because of security but i think it should be decision of the user to either go for cloud backup or not. For many it is an extremely important feature. Hoping for your consideration of this request.

Dear Developer, Nice app against WhatsApp but still need many features like can search gif, photos, links, videos directly from main page search box. Mute option should be customized or should add 15 days and 1 month option it directly shows 1 year after 1 week. Also add features like starred messages. Also add direct calling feature on main page. Waiting for better features at earliest. But your efforts are appropriate.

I installed this app before some days. They were many option missing. You are adding new features by sending new updates that is very good but what most need is to clear or delete the chat messages. You have given “disappearing message” option with time option that is very good. But when I installed it i sent some messages that time I didn’t set disappearing msg on, now there is no option to delete those msgs. I hope u are there to address the issue. Please update it with “delete/clear chat” option.

Group names can only have really less number of characters which is especially hard if the name is not in English, because somehow other languages increase the character count without even completing a word (like Hindi).
Also I feel adding new sticker packs to Signal should be easier kind of like Telegram. Easy discovery and quick sticker sending even when you don’t have a pack installed based on emojis. That’s when I believe Signal’s chat experience will be on par with other apps. Right now it is hard to convince people to keep using this app without proper comparable features.

Firstly applaud to team for delivering an amazing app which is at par with most apps alike apps available in market, but extra points to signal for making it more secure and private.
Only concern which I am experiencing since I started using the app, that is for some reason the ringer notification is muted irrespective it’s a chat notification or incoming call notification there is no audible alert while phone’s screen on or screen off.
I have tried resolving the same via signal trouble shooting option but still it fails to work properly.
If this is any kind of bug issue requesting to look into the same for seamless use of the app.

Hey i wanted to say that the app works smoothly its pretty good all the privacy also seems pretty well i’m okay with this app but it needs many improvements i really genuinely hope that you’ll see my review and make those changes
1. I can’t see whether the person i am talking to is online or not.
2. In group chats I can’t see whom has seen the message i sent, i can only see if everyone as a whole has seen it.
3. PLEASE ⚠️ THE MOST IMPORTANT ⚠️
Add an option of making your own stickers and using them in the chats, I can’t make it on a desktop I don’t have access to that so i need a feature on my mobile phone only please, it’s not fun to chat like this and this will probably lead to me leaving the app.
4. There is no option for changing the chat wallpaper its black and very suffocating type I don’t like to open it i’ve tried to do everything but at the end i came to know that there’s no option to have your own chat wallpaper.

i.e. whatever we put up as status..after the timeline of 24hours should b made available in setings status depository as in if we want to repost it again it’s easy to go back there n post it
We can also know what we posted rather then repeating the same status
The depository timeline should be same concept of iPhones tat is wen we delete a photo on iPhone it’s available in the deleted items for 30days n it’s easier to go there n repost if we like to do so again
Also.. for the profile pic we upload.. we should have an option of how many ppl have viewed my profile pic and liked it and there should a like button for status also

I am actually feeling happy & safe while using Signal. But I am unable to receive notifications for the messages that I receive. I need to open the app everytime to check if A message has been sent to me or not. Secondly, I am unable to receive any Audio or Video calls. Without receiving any call, it simply states that I have a missed video call or an audio call. The option for "Reset secure session" is not available in the application. This is really a wonderful app which takes very little permissions and collects minimum user data. That is something really appreciable in this age to Data mining by the Techs.
This app doesn’t has ‘online’ status; but I consider it rather a positive one. Some might miss the status option in this, again not a necessity. You have social media for status and this is a messenger.
One major issue I can say is with the contact syncing where I know people are in ‘Signal’, but it’s not shown on my app. This is kind of strange. Apart from it, it’s really best.

But sometimes when we like to call someone ,its not work properly or says “signal busy”, so I wish to say you that, you need to update app and also you need to provide the option of putting “status” or “fleet” like facility in future app update , because most of them were waiting for that option in signal app and another option of “calls” icon in the app like whatsapp app , instead of going to new messege option and selecting the person we need to make a signal call. The App works very good, and many options are much advance than WhatsApp and lesser than telegram. Though you don’t feel that you are missing WhatsApp and you will not regret of choosing Signal. Though missing few features like 1. setting status, 2. last seen is not that user friendly 3. The images are loading little slower than WhatsApp 4. Setting up DP can be much better. 5. Group call and Video call is very slower to load. Hope these all are fixable and can be improvised in upcoming updates.

All required permission given to app. And Please add Feature like Star messages and Stories and left swipe to see messages info. Few feature suggestions for the app developers:
1. Kindly add a fully encrypted backup option as it is very important to maintain the chats incase of phone loss or while switching devices. (Especially when we use it for business).
2. Quick share contact support like WhatsApp.
3. Disable app notifications when already in app. (Its annoying to have notification for the chat we are already in).
I am giving 5 stars as soon as the backup feature is implemented.
For users:
A humble request to donate to ‘Signal’. This is the only way for an app to keep functioning and providing us with privacy and security. If not, this app will too have no choice but to implement ads or sell data for server, maintenance etc.

I have had great user experience so far. I like the UI, simple and clean. It has better video and audio quality calling than WhatsApp and I can use it knowing my privacy is being respected and my data is not being sold to the highest bidder. It even has a nice Desktop app for Windows and Mac. It is open source, owned by a not-for-profit organization. I am never going back to WhatsApp. It can’t believe I didn’t try them out sooner.

Just a couple of things I hope signal improves upon in their upcoming updates.
- After switching from WhatsApp I realised native sticker support is very poor and I can’t add customised stickers yet for group chats.
- On the iPhone XR the very top of the display close to the edge and between the battery and time icons has a small section where text can still be seen even after scrolling past, but this is a very small bug.
- Lastly notifications even while I’m in the app. Taken from WhatsApp if I receive a notification while I’m away from the app is fine, but receiving while I’m still in the app is a bit annoying.
- Also a small idea but, why not add an invite option to WhatsApp as well which would make it easier for prior communications in WhatsApp to be switched over to Signal very easily.

Finally, the day of Signal and privacy has arrived. It was a barren land of privacy lovers until Facebook shot itself in the foot. I can’t count the number of times I installed and subsequently uninstalled the app due to lack of users.
Having an open-source app run by a foundation as compared to a data-hungry megalomaniac is a huge difference but it was always difficult to upset the apple cart. However, the message had finally come through and it has been great to see people being receptive about the change.
In terms of features, Signal has always lacked behind as it didn’t have mainstream appeal. However, it does the basics really well and the future is bright as the app seems to have reached a critical mass.

Signal is like a clone of WhatsApp (I understand this as the founder is Brian Acton). You get all the features of WhatsApp with an added benefit of privacy. The why is the sending thought? I’m sure you are worried about your group chats and friends who aren’t there on signal. This wasn’t the case with WhatsApp either in its initial days. It’s the matter of time. And the companies that allowed it to happen, had a vested financial interest in letting it happen, look at their stock value and balance sheets and trials in congress.

The ones motivated to make money, report to a board of directors and stockholders or those who have no board or shareholders and don’t aim to make any money from giving you the fundamental right to communicate with those you care about...

This morning I was listening to a podcast about the history of Whatsapp which was founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum. I came to know how adamant these two were regarding the privacy of the users. And how facebook came in and ruined it all.
Later in the show I heard that Brian Actor has created SIGNAL messaging app. I am glad that I’ve already been using this app for an year now. Also I have made many people to install this app on their phone. My friends now know that if they want to reach me, they have to install SIGNAL on their phone coz I stopped using any Facebook product since two years.
I value a person who values my privacy.
So kudos to Brian Acton for this wonderful app that is SIGNAL.
