I even have access to GoodNotes - a paid app - and much prefer the free version of PDFExpert over that for my use case. Iβve also tried flexcil and liquid text, but this app prevailed

This is the best for iPad, but i am facing a problem. I was reading a PDF file of 6mb initially, but then I put a lot of voice notes in it. Due to this file size has gone upto 1.2 GB . Now I want to reduce the size by deleting all the voice notes, but I am not able to do so. Even after deleting it is of 1.2 GB only.

I appreciate for your efforts that solved my last request in the update. But at present, I am facing a new issue with frequent crashing of the app while pressing undo button. Itβs not that frequent but it happens few times a day whenever the app is in use. And one time my pencil was gone completely blank and couldnβt function. I donβt know whether itβs the app fault. I hope it would be sorted out soon.

This could easily be the best free app, but need a few improvements which are very basic:
1. Marker lightens the text below it. This needs to be fixed. The marker should always be on thr background of the text.
2. People loves this app for its simplicity, why not allow them the option to customise the Annotate toolbar according to the colours, pens, etc we frequently use and add them as a shortcut. Favourite toolbar is a paid feature, I know, but this feature is too basic to be even considered for paid. Please make it freely available.
3. Highlight option needs bug fixes. Most of the time it highlights the whole line when a word is selected.
4. Underline and Strikeout need THICKNESS option. Basic but missing.
5. After drawing SHAPES, delete/edit option comes, so once you draw a shape, you have to again tap the screen to get ready for the next drawing. This option can be activated later if required, kindly donβt keep it as default. That single tap again consumes time when you are into it back to back.
6. NIGHT and SEPIA mode changes the colour of the annotations. Please fix this.
7. Rotating a PDF is the most basic feature any pdf app has. Please make it freely available.
I am writing this after using this app for more than a year. Kindly consider this as a genuine feedback and request from a regular user. Thanks and Regards.
Random weird lines and broken text

The app is great but recently I have observed following weird behaviour:
1. The APPLE pencil tends to disappear suddenly, only comes back after relaunching the app.
2. Random straight lines appear when I am writing with Apple Pencil at roughly the middle of the screen. THIS DOES NOT GO, CAN ONLY BE ERASED
3. While writing text with Apple Pencil, the text is broken. Weird dashed lines appear at or around the written text. Zooming in that area somewhat improves the line curve and makes it continuous.
Randomly hangs, poor palm rejection and image issues

Using with synced folders, extremely laggy page transitions (on an iPad Pro 2020) while turning and poor palm rejection. App keeps turning the page while tryin to use the pencil to highlight and randomly fails to register pencil input at other times.
Other times it just becomes unresponsive for 3-5 seconds without registering any inputs whatsoever. Extremely irritating - maybe the sync doesnβt need to be on constantly.
Now when images are inserted and crop option selected, image flips and no way to rotate the image back.
Since last update has been stuttering with EVERYTHING. Awful experience
Frequent crashes when two or more pdfs are open

I use a 2020 iPad, and this issue occurs way too many times. Also if I switch to a different app with a pdf open, the pdf closes when I navigate back to this app. Still, annotation tools and markup options are good. Docking points for severe crashes when 2 or more pdfs of large size are open.

Itβs a great app to highlight and annotate pdfs. However recently some pdfs are showing up as password protected when they are not password protected and open perfectly fine in other pdf apps. When opening such pdf there is a tab to insert password and there is an unlock button below it. If I click on unlock without entering the password it opens the pdf, but all the service tabs are greyed out and I can neither select, highlight, annotate nor browse the index of such pdfs. Please rectify this problem or I will be compelled to switch after all these years, which I donβt want to because I love this app.

PDF Expert 6 was the best PDF professional app. When they came out with PDF 7, which was subscription based, i was actually exited, hoping that the productivity would be much better.
Quite contrary, PDF 7 is an extremely substandard app. The app gets struck whenever even a decent size PDF is opened. It crashes frequently. Strangely, I never faced these issues in PDF Expert 6. I fail to understand how an expensive, subscription based version, is worse than the earlier version.
Update in Jan, 2021: All thanks to PDF Expert, now I have migrated from iPad to Microsoft Surface. Even after one and half year since upgrade to 7, the app is still terrible. It got worse day by day till a point where a PDF cannot be opened or worked upon without it getting stuck every 2 minutes.
Though a fantastic app in terms of work flow, it is ruined after the upgrade. And there is no other app in iPad which matches this workflow. Ergo, a serious professional who works with PDFs everyday has no option but to migrate to other operating systems.

I was using WPS office for my PDF work. Here I want to mention that, I donβt edit PDF, but I read and mark the PDF sometimes make sticker notes. Here, free version gives me everything for my work. For editing PDF you have to pay a price, WPS office also had that. So I donβt need that and donβt have any objection. Plus you can have 3 different modes for reading, I.e. day, sepia and night. It really helps. So, thumbs up from my side.

I bought an iPad Pro majorly for my studies and This app was all what I used in this device. But recently the support for file was missing with which I can directly open a file without importing it into the app.I really hate that idea of Apple of copying a single file everywhere. So, uninstalling with a heavy heart. Everyone should improve not deteriorate. Revive your app

The user friendliness is high. The smoothness and options are great. The person who has classified the options between free and pro version is very smart and done a great job. However one thing can be improved that is option of searching in all pdfs (i.e. if i write a sentence or some words in search box, then the app should be able to tell which pdf contains that sentence or words i searched). Thank you

Annotation issues

While opening an annotated pdf which has been derived via splitting of a larger parent pdf, the annotations which were previously highlighted using the marker are all converted to pen type. As a result any highlighted text via marker appears as if it has been struck across with a pen making the underlying text unreadable.
So the pdf is as good as useless.
This is surprising considering even Appleβs build in reader is able to recognise the annotations as highlighted text rather than text which has been struck off via marker.

I mainly use this app for reading pdfs and downloaded books .....it can open any type of pdf available ..... I used iBooks for reading pdf versions but it crashed several times ....but I faced no such issue with pdf expert .....really reliable !!

In the earlier version, I was able to open the app without connecting to WiFi. But in the current version, I am unable to do so. I work in hospital environments where the internet is bad. So please enable the app to run in full offline mode like before. The app itself is good except for some crashes now and then.

Hi! I started using this app after going through the good reviews it has received but the latest version crashes or fails to open the files. My iPad Pro 11 freezes for a few seconds and the app closes itself. The app stays at Readdle branding and closes itself. I connected the WiFi and restarted the app and it worked. Do I have to be online for it to boot? Or is it a bug? Please resolve it as I use it heavily to annotate my pdfs.
If the iPad had a killer app, this is it.

If you work frequently with PDFs in any capacity, PDF Expert will literally change your life. This is the Swiss Army Knife of PDF Editors out there, and it does everything you Ρould conceivably expect it to do. For macOS users, think of it as a more all-round, more powerful version of Preview. Hands down my favourite feature would be the smart annotations, which help you highlight OCRed text neatly, and search for them by color.
The in-built file manager is nothing to scoff at either, with cloud and NAS sync support.
Every part of this app feels polished and easy to use. Bugs are few and far in between. 6 star app if it was up to me.

It allows you to create bookmarks without even purchasing premium version. It also allows you to open multiple pdf files simultaneously. It also has many useful features. In my opinion, it is much better than adobe acrobat pdf readers.

This new update supporting iOS 13 is pretty sluggish n unresponsive while scrolling, selecting any tools, and this s frustrating at times. So please bring back previous speed n smoothness. Thanks for great software. And if possible add an option for donation which will increase your funds. Hoping for the best update. iPad Pro 10.5.

Annotating- with stylish could be much smoother like notability. It is not as smooth as it should be, I just donβt enjoy while writing on PDFs like notability where itβs flawless.
This app while scrolling sometimes freezes and irritates me (i.e. stops) then after few seconds it starts working again.
My device is iPad Pro 12.9 inches, so itβs not the problem of my device.
Hoping these problems will go away in coming updates.

It is horrible after update , they have reduce the features and now every thing is coming under paid services, and itβs one time purchase , every year I have to pay good amount of money , with this new update I canβt even add different type of pencil in annotation function, after using earlier version I was planning to buy pdf editor, but now I am not gonna buy , what if after a year they will remove all features and ask us more money, this is completely fraud.

Beware of new update!! Do not update, for those who use Scanner Pro integration with pdf expert. It is not integrated with Scanner Pro. It will make the organisation of scanned documents even more tiresome.
This should be mentioned explicitly in the update, now I am stuck with new update and cannot revert back!!
Update: Hats off. It has re-established its position and proved its undoubted worthiness. It is an ESSENTIAL app for pdf users.

Upfront - the review is not for the app but the direction in which company is heading. The app itself is absolutely fantastic.
I have been a long time customer of various Readdle apps and I absolutely love PDF Expert and sort of its companion app, PDF Converter.
I have PDF Expert on my Mac and also iPhone. The recent update on iPhone has bought subscription and being a paid customer I am not happy that app has gone free and now instead of getting new features I will need to opt for subscription. I understand some of those features are for Pro users but anyone investing in PDF Expert ecosystem is looking to get things done which average users don't need. Just for reading PDF file, we have ton of free apps already.
I would recommend the developers/company for rethinking on this approach. They could have given all features free to current paid users for a year or so and then let them decide if they need subscription beyond that time.
Not that I am going to move to different app (though i would be lying if I never contemplated that) but I hope company listens to it's customer. A trademark of any great and successful company. Keeping fingers crossed π€π»

I have used many annotation apps. But this is one is the best. It also provides integration with multiple cloud services.
Options are there to highlight, underline, draw lines and use marker over images in the pdf.
Clubbed with the other apps of Readdle this acts like a complete operating system in itself. Brilliant app! ππ½

Pretty good app Iβd say, couldβve easily been the best though. It is prone to crashing when you have 3 or 4 pdfs open simultaneously. Also one of my pdfs got corrupted twice when I was annotating it. Never ran into these issues when I was using Xodo or PDF Pro. I still went ahead and purchased it since it looked like the best of the lot. Iβm still using this app but if it keeps crashing and if my documents keep getting corrupted, Iβm not sure Iβd want to carry on with it. Especially one of my pdfs (Instructorβs solution Manuel), as soon as I open it and flick through the pages, this app just crashes every single time! I canβt use that pdf with this for, for this reason I had to redownload PDF Pro. So this app definitely has got some issues. As I said, good app, aesthetically pleasing, but not the best
UPDATE : Downvoting it from 3 star to 1 star. Last update has made it completely useless, now this app just doesnβt want to work. Itβs just very frustrating. When you pay Rs 800 for an app, you expect it to work

Full Apple pencil support with perfect calibration, exceptionally good on storage pdf management, exceptional smooth, real-time cloud sync capability with support for dropbox and drive accounts. Needless to say standard pdf reading features like sepia mode, night mode, crop mode etc are all available.

Pdf expert is a great app but I have been facing problems. Sometimes it just hangs...n whatever I do I canβt it started till I restart the iPad. This is never the case in any other app. I would also like more colour options for highlighting and an option to increase the thickness of the underlining marker.
