While Splitwise is very helpful and we use it for splitting household expenses, it would be great to see a “scan bill” option in the app. Idea is that you should be able to upload a picture/ document from your phone into the app and it auto detects the line item and corresponding expense. It then gives you an option to either create individual line item for each expense or use the total to split. This option would definitely want me (and everyone I’ve talked to about this) to buy and keep using Splitwise pro. Hope the developers see this and take appropriate action immediately since this is quite critical. Would be happy to be a beta user to help you test this out.

The best part about splitwise has now been ruined. When friends would go out we would split using this. Now it’s absolute trash. Just 3 transactions a day…. then watch videos. I am missing transactions if I rely on this app because I make more than 5-6 transactions that I need to split. It’s one of the most useful app when it comes to travel. Of course you can use it for non travel expenses too but I find it most helpful when you are traveling. Easy to update, track and settle especially with the option to use Simplify debts, it’s magic!

Now it has started restricting the usage unless one opts for Pro but so far I would still rate as a fantastic app. Hope it does not forces to go Pro way cause it would be sad to move to another app.

I was using this from last 5 plus years and now it has introduced limitations to basic services as well and that too in an age where even gpay and all other apps like Paytm PhonePe khatabook etc have this ledger and features with inbuilt payment methods. The only reason I was sticking here was because of all the transactions history I have here. And as a developer I know the cost of maintaining an awesome app like this but you could have gone for the monetisation option and if you want I can help you implement ads and other ways to support your app.

This app used to be great, and I would recommend it to everyone. Now that they have added limit restrictions and introduced delays between adding payments, trying to force users to upgrade to premium, I will be moving to a competitor. Whoever was in charge of these decisions should be fired for taking a great thing and getting greedy. I just want to add some expenses for a trip every two months pr so and don’t want the features offered in pro, why should I have to pay a monthly fee? Kudos for ruining a good thing.

It’s a great app providing you convenience instead of calculating expenses manually. It’s not as tough process to pay for it though. So the team decided to put unnecessary ads on every expense add limiting expense adds count in a day. This is insane you pay for Netflix, Disney, prime, and too many bad businesses. Some businesses are just not worth paying. Also making app irritating for people to make them pay is just wrong.

I’ve used Splitwise for many years now and I loved it then. I used it again after a gap of 2-3 years and I was forced to purchase Pro option as I couldn’t add expenses beyond 6 items.

Felt like an idiot since the paid version hardly provides any additional benefits.

Charts is utterly basic & limited to categories only and doesn’t really provide any useful info.

After I don’t find an option to export the data to be able to share with friends which I think I was able to do earlier

Was a nifty app for us college students to split bills and other expenses for free in groups and the free tier didn’t really have an absurd transaction limit before. At least till July.

Now, however, they’ve limited the daily transactions added by a person to a measly 3/day. Which is frustrating because it’s not often I need to split the bills that would make purchasing the pro version worth it, especially when we’re strapped for cash and need to manage every penny, since I have different means to manage other expenses and only occasionally need to use this app.

I used to be a long time. User of split wise and use it for home expenses and with friends. Have been using Splitwise for more than 10 yrs now. Even when no one knew about it, I have been using it. And all of a sudden they have restricted the number of entries you can make in a day. I don't think anyone will pay to use Splitwise. They will revert to other apps or go back to the trusted excel. Yes a business needs money to survive but can't fathom this decision. Probably they want to shut shop and looking for a market exit strategy.

Thanks for randomly springing a daily expense limit and a wait for adding every expense upon us! The 3 expenses a day limit was neither communicated nor expected, and the 10 seconds wait between every single expense is unbelievable. Splitting the bills between users isn’t rocket science, and almost anyone can make an app that does the same thing. Such an app might be slow, but it wouldn’t be “10 seconds between expenses, and limited to 3 expenses a day” slow! Will be moving to a competitor, thanks!

When the world is moving towards free apps and services to raise the standard of living for all, the developers thought it would be so beneficial to everyone that they started to charge to add more than 4 transactions in a single day for something which is so basic that they should be ashamed of themselves. I loved this app since years for it's good features (although missing some crucial) but the main reason I kept using it was the absence of advertisements and a premium. Forcing to upgrade to premium for the things which is being done for years free of cost isn’t a right move I guess. May be new users will be used to your pricing. I have been using Splitwise for quite sometime now. But recently noticed I have been getting “you have reached your daily limit expense” notification when I had just added 4 transactions. There is no heads up or info anywhere how much is the limit for daily transactions. In the past I have added 15-20 transactions in one day. But off late this daily limit is frustrating. Crappy move to persuade free users to move to the paid version. I don’t want the features in paid version. Just want to add simple transactions and manage finance. Seems like I am going back to maintaining the excel sheet again. Splitwise team you just lost a customer.

With group members joining and leaving at separate times, certain expenses being shared by a limited number of different group members, and different members paying at different times, sharing expenses would have been very complicated. Splitwise makes it so easy to enter and apportion the expenses. I have now been using it for several years and find it essential whenever we travel in a group.

I have been using Splitwise since 4 years! It is an extremely helpful app to keep track of your group expenses and divide them among the group members! You can enjoy your trips and don’t have to worry about the calculations at all! You just have to ensure your entries of the expenses are correct and you are done!

Its very amazing app for splitting the expenses between friends and family. It saves my time of many days of manual calculation and easy to use, just some times if there are multiple payers and unequal share then the calculation should be lil manual but that is manageable.

Suggestion: if I created an expense in non group then there should be some option to move the expense to some group. So one star less, else it is a fantastic app👍🏼

I need to create the non group expenses again in group expenses manually and then deleted the non-group expenses.

The app is great and pretty clean and simple to use.

Most of us sharing a flat generally add expenses at end of week so to add to experience if you could give a simple add and subtract feature while typing in amount. For example I bought grocery worth 330 on day 1, 200 on day 3 and 696 on day 6. Now on day 7 I have 2 options I can add three different expenses or i can calculate these 3 days on a calculator and add as one. What would be great is if you could add a simple add button so I can add these 3 days expense directly on Splitwise and store it as an single expense. Hope this makes sense

Really a very useful app. One of the essentials apps for me. Best thing about it is its simplicity. However, some attention to improvement is required. Such as -

1. Better charts and drill down capabilities in Pro. I see the bars, i see a spike in a monthly expense, but I can’t drill down to that expense category to see what exactly caused the spike.

2. Settle all balances are treated as expenses. Due to this there are spiked expenses data, not very easy for analysis.

3. Integration with spend sources, like bank apps, apple pay etc will enhance its usability.

This is the best app for expense splitting however just one thing seems missing . The amount entries is open for all in the group and does lead to confusion of multiple repeating entries by different individuals. Please add option of admin selection who is authorised to add deleted and edit all entries at least in groups of more than 4 people . Otherwise it’s a 5 star app with this option as well

As of now, if some friend owes me some money & I need to remind them, the options available are through email, text message, whatsapp etc.

An option of sending them push notification will be very handy just we get notifications for other things(expense added, amount paid, etc) in this app.

Good app, but I look forward to some changes like adding a custom item, tagging capital and operational expenses, scheduling recurring entries with an end date, managing the recurring entries in a separate window etc. We do our apartment account management through splitwise. So far it’s been a good exp. Looking fwd to these changes being incorporated by team splitwise.

Love this app.

One of the best app I have been using from last few year now.

1 feature I would like to see is, instead of people adding the amount, there should be a way where a single person collects X amount from each in a group and start adding the expanse in the group. When he runs of of fund, the group should be notified for any further payments or just show that funds are about to be exhausted.

I have used Splitwise for years and it’s been useful when I had to split expenditures with flatmates.

But now as a homemaker, I am really struggling to leverage this app to store collective and individual expenditures.

I can only enter my individual expense on the group I share with my husband. He has to do his data entry by himself. Else we have to choose a “split” option. Why would you force that???

I should be able to do all this data entry by myself, even if I have to do it for the other members in my house!!

The below review is for Pro version:

Charts are restricted to a pie.

Only absolute nos. no percentage split

No way to see who contributes how much share of the expenditure.

In this post CoViD world, when all receipts are digital, I don’t see the point of receipt scanning.

Itemisation barely makes sense if you give just limited Color palette for high level items in the charts to start with.

In short, there is no way to analyse the Data if visualisation is so limited. Charge me for subscription but at least make it worthwhile.

It’s turning out to be a disappointing journey in managing expenditures using Splitwise, when one moves from one stage of life to another.

This is one of the best apps I’ve come across very user friendly experience and well designed. Easy to use, make notes , modify and update the changes. Splits the amount with the options we select and keeps track of all the expense.

Another important thing is it can also be exported to .csv file from web app ..

I’ve recently started using the app and it feels nice. One drawback I could feel was deleting an expense is allowed to everyone. In case the person who added that misses out the notification that the entry has been deleted, then it’s gone without his knowledge. Please restrict the delete option to only the one who adds the expense. Just provide an option to other persons in the group to request for deletion.

I like the UI of this app and if u notice there are many small symbols they created like expand bar symbol, etc. and not to forget about those kittens in profile section😍. Great app! One suggestion is if you guys could grow the app to be an expense tracker too - automatically migrate expenses to a monthly expense tracker. It would then need to have a addition of solo expenses too. Would be an all-in-one useful app then!

A receipt scanning feature could also be added with equal split of taxes.

Been using this app for a long time.

When we settle up with a friend from the friends tab and who is a member of two or more groups, the payment should be reflected in each of the group individually so that all the groups get settled too. This will allow us to remove the friend from a group which has already settled up with him in that group.

Easy to manage all cost and calculate smoothly at the end of months

One suggestion: please provide on touch settlement option because currently we have to select each and every member of the group and settle each one. So it may possible all member give to one person only and that person can settle it for all by one touch option

I love this app. It’s so useful! Brilliance in the math helps us stop draining the brain.

I love the advance settings for simplifying the settlement. Only improvement I recommend is, that option is still a treasure hunt for people. Even after me using that option for a large group expense, I totally forgot from where I accessed and simplified it. I will also recommend feedback to user on what happened after doing the advanced settings for simplifying option.

I just love the app. But would like to give you feedback on this app. There should be an option to see the group totals as other members group member as to see how much did the group member spent as I see as my total paid/ total share & total balance need to see this similar info for all the members in the trip.

Also there should be an option to add capital fund which is paid as advance for trip expenses.

Simplify debt really simplifies unwanted extra transactions. Would have been more helpful if had payment options like net banking, UPI for Indians. I just love using this app whenever we take trip.

Often the food bill in restaurants includes a certain percentage of tax. While we can split the bill among all based on what they have eaten , it’s painful to calculate the exact share of tax for each individual. Often we resort to adding the extra tax amount equally among all in a separate entry. It becomes worrisome as the group size increases . It would be better if we an option to add the tax percentage in that country , say 8% for everyone involved in that bill.

I used the app recently on a trip with my friends and absolutely loved it. Very well thought through and covers 99% of the aspects one would need during events with financial transaction in a group.

Just 2 suggestions for future upgrade of the app

1. I cannot see a feature where I can filter and see the transactions only done by me or any one individual unless I download on excel and filter. So it will be helpful if the app has a feature to filter on spend by

Cool app to simplify and share expenses when done in a group. Has powerful features like to document and share expenses with only a limited number of people and not necessarily the whole group.
