A unique "travel" book in many ways. Mr. Murphy writes a charming journal of his sojourn with his wife in a 'motorcar' in 1908. This was Great Britian BEFORE the horrific wars when life in the villages was almost medieval. Reading between the lines, you are able to garner the pulse of the people (antipathy toward the lords who own most of the land) keeping them in almost poverty. I was amazed at the number of cathedrals they visited (30) and many, many castle and abbey ruins.
