The app’s preview is very weird in case for iPad users, this is not the case for your other app for only e paper. Also Indian express also is not having this issue. I hope you’ll fix this soon.

The Hindu is a one of the best news apps in India no doubt about it, have been using from many years.. recent updates on GUI, news of the day, premium contents are awesome.. I wish to have included these options in App for more readers friendly. 1. News in short (most of the news providers or apps come up with quick and shorts news for those don’t have much time to go through) 2. Separate menu or option for News Recap of the day or week or month (which gives summary of that particular period in one go those who missed the important news which also benefits to Students for revision as well. 3. Little bit GUI improvement in App compare to browser, web browser gives you the cleaner formatting than the App. Above only my personal recommendations.

Premium subscription not showing up in app.
I subscribed to the annual plan of the publication on 8th June 2024 through my Apple ID. However, as on 11/6/24, the subscription is not showing up on the app. Kindly rectify the issue or ensure a full refund so I can try to subscribe again.

App heard up phone and drains battery
I like The Hindu and spend a good amount of time on this app, but as long as the app is on my phone remains heated up and drains my battery faster than usual. I do not have this problem with any other news apps.

Good Content Bad Tech
Recently, I subscribed to your All Pass Access package with high hopes of enjoying seamless access to your esteemed publications. However, I've encountered persistent connectivity problems with the app, which have greatly hindered my ability to fully utilize the subscription benefits.
In addition to the connectivity issues with the All Pass Access app, I regret to inform you that I am also unable to login to the respective apps for Frontline and BusinessLine, despite being a subscriber to these publications. This has been particularly disappointing as I had subscribed to your newspaper under the impression that your organization is at the forefront of delivering high-quality content across various platforms.

The app for ipad is so bad that I use the browser.
Bookmarks dont work. It doesn’t save the articles at all.
When trying to promote online sales and digital access you should have started with a fully functioning app. It doesn’t at all feel like it. It still feels like you released a trial version of the app.
I wanted access to The Hindu wherever I was and wanted to avoid waste if i could but the newspaper man is more reliable than the app. Makes me rethink digital subscription.

A bliss to read
As a kid, was introduced to the Hindu in 1985 and those days we used to get late editions in the place i live. But the language used in the print and the quality of the news covered made me get addicted to the newspaper so much that, till date i prefer to read The Hindu first and everything else next. As of now i have only one news App, The Hindu, that should sum it up.

Change in Swiping gestures
Swiping from the extreme edges should be assigned for going out of an article rather than going to the next or previous article. This app could be used one handedly once you fix this. Currently to exit an article there is an arrow key on the top left corner which is absurd. You can keep swiping right to left on the screen for going to the next article but for god’s sake please change the swiping from left to right to exit the current article.

“The Hindu“ is an excellent news paper. I read the Hindu daily it gives me brief information about everything whatever is going on in the world. Gives National and International News. News related to Entertainment, Politically News also given by “The Hindu”. I would prefer “The Hindu” to students who are preparing for competitive exams. It gives General awareness also. Its language is not so easy but if we read it on daily basis we would understand it easily.I would like to say its Editorial section is great for Banking exams. Quality news in a not-so app
Purchased annual subscription (July 2022) , but the app experience is demotivating enough to not use it. (1) There is no easy way to get to the top of home screen while navigating or reopening the app. This is easily one of the most used actions on news apps. (2) Commenting mechanism is poor. Despite already being logged into the app, the commenting system asks to sign in again after typing in my views, which is redundant and unnecessary. (3) Google SSO is not working to sign in to the commenting system, which is one of the easiest ways to login. Google says Hindu’s ‘commenting system’s not secure enough and suggests it no longer allows this route to login. (4) Took a screenshot of the above and tried to contact the support from the app. I couldn’t find that option if there is really one (5) Tried to reach support from the App Store before writing this review. The link takes me to their website homepage. Is there really a mobile app team that maintains this app?

The only reason for 4 stars is that the app has in-app notifications that cannot be turned off. I only like push notifications for news alerts, but the app forces you to access same articles in the in-app notifications that are updated daily.

Dark mode
I have to turn on dark mode by going into setting which is time consuming . It should be placed on front like other news apps. Plus there should be option when my iphone has dark mode enabled if i wish to enable dark mode for hindu app too. Paid for this and app still facing this issue after months.

App has horrible functioning on iOS
I am a paid subscriber of the app and have had horrible experiences on the iOS platform. The app does not let you zoom on any aspects of the pics and does not even function in landscape mode. The app default pic of articles is with pictures where in only half the pic is seen and to see the pic you have to come out of the article and cannot access the article. It does not even let you write to the app developer through the app and gives an error screen. I have even emailed my concerns with screenshots to the app s email address but there has been no response. So I’d strongly recommend from not becoming a paid subscriber.

Issue with The Hindu login - unable to read articles
Hi Team,
I am a premium member of The Hindu app and had used my federated account for login and subscription of premium membership. Currently while using app, I am unable to read the articles, while logging in facing error and even the support portal is down. For such a prestigious application and news portal, it is not expected. Could you please fix this ASAP as I am missing out on news and service provided. This is not the first time such issue with login has occurred, we have seen this issue earlier as well.

A newspaper, today , is more about catchy headlines and flashy news than anything and people often read it from a biased view or become biased by reading it. However The Hindu as and when read by me seems to be an exception; both the news section as also the views one are not only informative and enriching respectively but also unbiased and that primarily makes it different and enjoyable and readable to me.

Room to improve
Overall the app is good but whenever I open an article its keeps on loading forever, whether device is connected to internet or not. There is no option to cancel loading and ultimately i have to close the app all the times and reopen it.

I am reading Hindu since my age of 17-18 (I am now 80). During my Delhi Life, I was getting the Chennai edition of the paper evening five-0-clock daily till The Hindu started publishing in Delhi. People including my seniors in office, would always prefer me to draft letters for them in English language although I was only 10th passed (SSLC). I raised to the level of Senior Manager in two multinational companies and Senior General Manager and Director in one reputed in an Indian Industrial House and retired at the age of 75 as full fledged employee in 2015. All achievements are only due to reading Hindu Paper daily. This is honest statement from my heart.

Notifications and iPad support
The Briefing section is awesome and same layout should have been in the home page as well.
Some news headlines are cut short and one has to open the article to read it.
Notifications are not popping up in the screen even after enabling at iOS settings and in app setting.

However, I recommend suggest and encourage you to look for, hunt and publish good news also. I count the number of good news headlines every day. The result varies from one to 3 out of 8 to 11 headlines. So I just read the good news for the value I pay every month. It sets the mind for the day. Your this subconscious mind advertisement will work for you to invite more subscribers when the read headlines and feel good for the day to go on.

It continuously pop up with a message 'app is online' although I have checked it with multiple mobile networks of Jio & Airtel as well as fibre technology of both companies with addition of BSNL. However, It is still coming up with same message which causes a severe irritation also break my reading focus. Please check this issue and resolve it for smooth reading. On the other hand, this app contains lots of news with advanced and new vocab work which helps to nourish my english learning.

Improved a lot but somethings remain
Last I used the app was in 2019. Things look much better now. Premium version looks really clutter free. Suggestion: playback of the videos remains glitchy and videos must play even if screen goes off. Also if phone is on silent mode but multimedia volume is up the video’s volume goes mute. Lastly when scrolling rapidly through articles, the scrolling must stop on tapping the screen(standard feature in browsers and apps too).

Why is there no application for the iPad?
I see this new app is pretty good and interesting subscription plans as well but if there is no iPad support when a lot of iPad users consume their daily news from it, it becomes difficult to buy into the subscription. It’s been more than 6 months since the new subscription plans and application came out and still not support for the iPad! This is a poor response from the team.

Earlier we were able to read even without internet after it initially loaded.
Now we are unable to do so, it need Internet full time
Please enable without internet too and also look after crash problems
PS: not everyone is able to continually use internet and have a less package

I am trying to learn it with respect to upsc preparation however few things are missing for example one cannot read the news i.e especially the editorial section.
Other than few technical glitch i find that the premium version works good

Accessibility issue for screen reader users
Hello there, I have been using the Hindu newspaper application for the past three years, but in recent days I am facing issue in reading paper with the help of screen reader VoiceOver, especially while navigating through News by swiping my finger it suddenly jumps to bottom of the sheet, to be specific after the heading it will directly tell post the comment button, so I am missing entire News in the particular link. Kindly fix it at the earliest

The app needs SEVERE patching and tweaking
The app needs some severe reworking and patching. Since the last update, surfing through the “Read Later”, “Interviews” and other tabs, immediately crashes the app. Hence, there is no way to read the articles later. I am inclined to believe that with a base as wide as The Hindu, this cannot be an issue of a forlorn app developing team or if The Hindu team has given up on its mobile app. The Hindu is one of the leading newspapers and a personal favourite. Let the app not be a letdown. Thank you.

Horrible
I’ve subscribed to the annual subscription pack and it’s just over a month and I can’t really use any subscription privileges. I’m having a limit on daily articles same as free version. The horrendous ads are back. It’s like I’ve thrown my ₹1199 in a gutter. If this persists, I’d have to go to consumer forum, as they aren’t responding to my complaints as well.

Finally a proper app!
I’m glad that the app has been finally updated. The new app is refreshing, very user friendly and definitely makes the subscription worthwhile.
One problem - the app keeps showing intrusive notification of “now online/offline” while reading articles. Please provide an option to disable it.

Looks like The Hindu is desperate to make money out of subscriptions.
Previous app was better since it was had two options viz. free with ads and a premium version. The worst thing about the latest update is it puts a limit on articles one can read in a month. Plus that value is set to 20 which is less than 1 article per day. This is the worst decision I have ever seen in my life. Why are you so desperate to mint money. Money is the reason you started publishing newspapers or for providing quality journalism to the masses? The latest update has made this app worst and I’m going to recommend never use this app. One more thing is that the app itself needs a revamp with the latest version of iOS.

Put adverts and make free
I can only read the headlines as the constant message is “you have read your 20 articles for this month “ 20 for a month ? That’s less than one per day. Wow how generous. We have news everywhere. Not really desperate to read from site x or site y. But since I am familiar with the Hindu newspaper i prefer reading it mainly because of reliability. The price is high. Either make free with adverts and /or reduce price like around 200 rs per year. Other option is to download times of India

Terrible app, good content.
The Hindu is known for its high quality writing and journalism which is why I like many others, prefer it over any other newspaper. But the app itself has too many bugs. It keeps crashing every now and then and one has to reinstall without any other option to choose. This has been the case since 2-3 years.
Articles don't load immediately at times when one is scrolling down.
Also, there are intrusive ads that pop and the 'cross' sign at the top of the ad which appears at the end doesn't work easily. One has to press it repeatedly. Recently, some ads starting showing a 'close' button which works better but still some ads have the 'cross' option.

Excessive advertisements
The Hindu app is a really good news app provided by The Hindu. It has good content and relevant news topics which are upto date. However, many advertisements are displayed in the app. Every time I click on an article or a news topic to read, an ad pops up. Even when I’m scrolling through a news page, the ads still pop up. It’s really frustrating when I’m concentrating on reading the news and these unnecessary ads pop. This has occurred many times. Please fix this issue if it persists. I like using The Hindu app, and use it daily for its news feed. So please fix the issue as soon as possible.

App is crashing !!
I have paid the subscription fees for a year. The app was working fine until 2 months back when it started to crash on my iPhone. Here is what is happening:
When I open a news, the first thing which comes is an ad ( I don’t understand this because when I subscribed I thought it will be add free) and when I close the ad the Hindu app also get closed. It has happened literally 20 to 30 times in last two days. Please fix this asap !
Update - I am still facing the above problems. There are irritating ads and they simply won’t go even after taping the close sign for 10 times !! This is bad !! Please do something about it. I have already paid the subscription and still the ads remain the same.

Degrading exponentially
Day by day.... increasing adds even on subscriptions , incessant messaging for more subscriptions, pop ups in app . I am a regular reader now for 3 continuous years and currently a subscriber.
The mobile app is shows pop ups and disrupts right in start 10 seconds, this is when i have paid for online subscriptions.
They wont let u read the hindu businessline article even online because they ask for a different subscription there.
Its a shame , something in management got really wrong , principles are nowhere ...money is not enough to save this paper now

Minimize the app & lose your page
Extremely annoyed by its lack of user friendliness. I navigate to another app such as a dictionary to check the meaning of difficult words. When I come back to the Hindu app, it takes me to the home page. Now I have to find the article I was reading once again. Also there's no way to fix the font size once and for all. Keep adjusting text size every article. Why is The Hindu always lagging behind in use of technology?

Worst App, full of ads
1) Ads are popping up like anything. For every click on news an ad will pop up. Is this a joke?
2) No direct feedback option available within the app, why is that so?
3) Whilst reading any news if we just received a call or toggle from one app to another due to some reason. That news will disappear, it refresh at its own. We cannot start where we left just a minute back. We have to scroll down to the bottom again to locate that news

Absolutely useless to buy a paid subscription
Even after paying more than 2k for the Epaper subscription, I’m still bombarded with ads and pop up windows, whereas the whole point of having a paid subscription is that the reader can get an ad free experience. Besides, shifting from one article to another is impossible as the back arrow directly takes you to the home page from the Epaper.
Hugely disappointed by the app and especially the Epaper. Waste of money.
Kindly make the app more user friendly.

Please make going back to list of articles easier
The back button is located on the far left, which makes it extremely difficult on larger devices to go back to the article list. In other apps, swiping from left takes us back, but here it takes us to the previous article. It will be greatly helpful if there is a button in the bottom left to go back to the list.
And please have a paid version on iOS as well.

Good content, worst app
Very bad app... probably due to lack investment in development... but even a college pass out can probably do a better job than this. Some things I don’t like include app refresh every time the user navigates, pauses my music when articles are opened (probably due to ads), generally bug infested app, regular intrusive ads, lack of syncing feature for bookmarked articles, no offline mode, swipe from left opens previous article in list rather than doing iPhone’s default behaviour which is to go back, no dark mode, rich content features like Graphs etc. don’t work.
Content is good tho. Better stop the feature creep and focus on a basic but solid app.

Wonderful
I have never seen such better Newspaper in history. The Hindu is the father of all newspaper. In The Hindu readers will never find any useless article, nor is there any entertainment related news in it, only those news and articles are published on daily basis which can provide the knowledge to the readers. Literally, it is GK book and sentence is amazing. The Hindu is very difficult to understand, In terms of English it has maintained a status of English required Oxford dictionary for more details. Editorial page is very Genuine. After all The Hindu is the best.

Forced video ads which mutes songs played in background
I have tremendous respect for Hindu for its unbiased publication but as much as I would like to read the news on go while I am listening to music it cuts my music output due to forced video ad.. I do understand that you have to advertise to make money but you can at least mute the videos that you advertise so that the reader has the option whether he wants to listen to it or not.
Hope you fix this.

Filled with inefficiency.
The application shows a single notification badge when there is no actual notification even if you open the app and there is no way to get rid of it. It bugs me.
Also, the news columns appear up stupidly. It says news digest is ready every morning but when clicked it takes me to the website instead of the application. The whole day is pings me and when I finally click on the news it takes three minutes to load. I have to literally close it and open it up again to make it load and read the news manually.
Please fix as soon as possible.

Ads have made it intolerable
The Hindu app has been a life saver in the absence of the other physical newspaper. But now, whenever I open an article, a video ad starts playing that just won’t go away. It keeps popping up no matter how many times I close it. It’s extremely frustrating, especially when I’m trying to catch up on current affairs in a short span of time, to have to close an ad that takes up the whole screen every 2 seconds. Fix this bug please!

Ads spoil the experience
While the new app is more fluid, I wonder who gave the dev and marketing team to insert video ads. I mostly read news while traveling and it’s a great nuisance when your phone starts singing a jingle for five seconds when you’re reading a serious piece of news. Please understand the difference between print media and television. Video ads are deeply interrupting. If you want to advertise, look at the Bloomberg app and see how they implement it, not at Economic Times which does it in the worst way possible. Overall disappointed by this turn in marketing decision.

Problem with notification
I would love to give rating 5 but I have a problem.. Rating 2 is just for you to get my problem noticed. I get a number on the app when i receive a notification. It goes away when I see it. But one day I got a number and it hasn’t gone away even though I have seen the notifications.. Please fix the bug.. It’s been a week or two but I haven’t seen an update.. Hopefully you see it and rectify it..

Revamped awesomeness!
The newly revamped news app is so good, I headed to app store to give it 5 stars even before the app requesting for reviews.
The Hindu has been my pick among news sources for their relatively balanced and unbiased coverage. But they were little behind in providing quality experience in the mobile space. Well, that now looks sorted out.
