Too many advertisements in the free version and the last straw was a email reminder saying “How do you say ‘quitter’ in German?” Which bullschlach app calls their customers like that? Its not even funny but totally offensive nd bullying.

It is an amazing app. It is good for learning new languages and practising it. If you have super Duolingo it focuses on your weak points you have unlimited heart and if normal Duolingo you have five hearts you have to you know like it’s a game where they are very bit of arts and if you take super Duolingo then or any of those two and sometimes in rewards you get 33 days of super Duolingo or and you can also have the trial of the 14 days and it is a really amazing app from my side. It’s totally great and you should try surely try it. It also helps you to practice and that’s my review. It’s a great APP

Yes. It’s irritating to see so many ads after completing a lesson. The ads will try to push you to take their ‘Super’ repetitively. And just five hearts for free learners feels like a sham. It was good before. Not recommended anymore.

I’ve been using this app since a long time now, I totally love it. It just keeps challenging me and I enjoy it. I’m learning multiple languages at the comfort of my fingers. But lately with the new update, I was trying my free trial and it ended and automatically the money was debited for a yearly subscription (after which I had to cancel further auto deduction) even after money being debited its not giving me access to all the features and shows that my subscription is cancelled 😅 So In short, money is gone but I’m not able to access the features and there has not been any refunded yet. Please help me.

The latest update to the subscription which moved unlimited hearts to super Duolingo is very unfair to those who spent a lot of their gems on the unlimited hearts purchase . Also in the mistakes and pronunciation sections have been removed. Why do you need to have a super subscription or 100 gems just to do legendary level it’s not fair to those who are on free Duolingo personally, I also think that the leaderboard challenges should be free and without spending of gems even though I thought it was a great app before these ads or now becoming a headache even though I understand that it helps fund the Duolingo’s mission, it is very annoying to have ads after every single lesson also, I think it is not fair on those who have less gems because those who have less gems cannot do the legendary or higher XP levels in turn leading them to loss of leaderboard. I do you wipe out the leaderboard or make it fair for free users,

I love Duolingo so much and it is so much more productive to learn a language when you have Duolingo’s “Widget” that constantly reminds you to do a session! The app is like a game where each session is a level you need to pass to get on to the next chapter! And with the new music and math feature it’s just even better, & it’s so much more fun with the create your avatar,badges and challenges! I definitely recommend it and get the Duolingo family Plan or individual plan, I am saving up for it and will see if I can get it! I’m in grade 6th in india right now and a new language French is just introduced to us. Now naturally I used Duolingo to learn the basics and more and I always get 10/10 in French! I also like that when you make mistakes, Duolingo continues with more questions and comes back to the questions you answered wrong so you can answer them with a fresh mindset,Some things that you can do to improve Duolingo or just some cool ideas are: Live challenges with friends. Select a language and start the challenge with who can finish first and get the most correct answers. & Notes, another thing is to introduce more Indian languages like Marathi,Sanskrit or Punjabi! ASL & BSL ( sign language ) would also be amazing. Thank you for reading this review and I hope that you take some stuff to mind ❤️

Up until a few months ago I enjoyed this app to the fullest. It was unparalleled. Now there are so many blooming ads making it impossible to enjoy each lesson without the pop up. Add to that the limited hearts which don’t make learning fun, because now I’m forced to take pointless lessons just so I can get hearts again JUST so I’m eligible to take a proper lesson. I personally think this app peaked when going for gold involved no prompts and the regular lessons had unlimited hearts. The demand for gems for every thing is very off putting. I enjoyed this 840 day streak but I suppose all good things come to an end. Better wake up team, I understand everyone needs to feed themselves but this short term change could end up with no long term gains.

I've been a dedicated user of your app for quite some time, and I must say that it's been an invaluable tool for learning languages. It's arguably one of the greatest language learning apps out there. However, I'd like to bring to your attention a recent update that has left me somewhat perplexed.
The introduction of AI-generated images for the widget displaying images and the days of streak is a novel idea, but it seems to have backfired in some instances. While the previous images were cute and awesome, the new ones are, well, weird. Seeing two heads of the Duolingo bird and similar oddities can be a bit distracting and off-putting. I kindly request that you address this issue promptly to maintain the app's overall appeal.
Moreover, I've noticed that the app's interface has become slightly slower after the update. It's important for the user experience that the app remains smooth and responsive. I hope you can look into this matter as well.
Thank you for your ongoing efforts to make language learning accessible and enjoyable. I look forward to an improved Duolingo experience in the near future.

I have been using Duolingo since 6 years and currently have a 950-day streak! I am a Plus subscriber for years. I even like the path better than the old crown system, which was very irritating! But I get very annoyed when Duolingo resets my progress frequently. I get used to a lesson plan and set myself goals based on my current path, but then Duolingo moves me along the path due to unnecessary updates - it is so annoying!
Also, their spaced repetition was better than having the same topic under one unit - now there is no difference from the old crown system. I loved your spaced repetition that existed between the 2022 major update and a few weeks ago. Why did you remove it? What was the point of moving from crowns to the new and improved path if you are not giving us spaced repetition?
Also, have some tab within the app were customers can send feedback - real time data gathering is better than any market research and will make your subscribers feel heard.
Include a link to podcast right in the app itself.
Things I Love:
1) Variety of exercises not found in other language apps that make langiage learning fun.
2) A natural method of acquiring a language almost just like we learnt our native language.
3) The stories with its diverse set of characters.
4) Duocon!!!

Duolingo is by far the best language learning app, period. There is absolutely no complaints I have with it. It teaches in a fun manner which is what I like about it. The teachers we have in school can are not nearly as good. I learn Japanese on this app and I love it. Just a small suggestion, keep a notebook with yourself that you write and revise in. Also, keep two seperate accounts, one for the alphabet and one for the words. Complete one lesson in each of them and you will complete a language in 3-4 years (at least Japanese according to my calculations). Highly recommended, try it out.

I have been using this app for last one and half month, I don’t feel i am spending time and learning but at the end of the month i can sense that i have learnt something without the sense of effort.I would like to thank and appreciate the developers behind this app. And my suggestion to team is to add Tamil language into the app. Both tamil to all the languages learning and from all the languages to Tamil learning. Whenever students or someone asks me to suggest any English/Foreign language learning method i use to think of some app but I didn’t get any. But now i found a good app but there is no Tamil language. Consider my humble request and please try to add Tamil language. I would definitively spread the app to my community as much as possible.

The app is a really effective way to learn languages. The experience has been enhanced with the extra characters and the stories. The advertisements can be a bit annoying, especially because they are repetitive, so I would really love if they were removed. The lives concept is better for learning, but I feel the Leagues should be removed as that makes people start to grind for hours, which would not be a good way to use the time. Otherwise, the app is great.

I have been using Duolingo since June. Learning new language is fun and quite helpful in many cases. It was all blissful in the beginning. However, I’ve noticed that the free users such as myself have limited hearts. Okay. Then I noticed that after each lesson was complete a “subscribe to Duolingo super” ad pops up. Not only that, for free users we can’t do the “80 XP” lesson unless we have enough gems. I think that it isn’t fair for those who don’t have super. I love this app but the advertisements are getting annoying after a point. The free content is real good because I learnt a lot from it but I miss going 80 XP’s and I sure miss unlimited hearts.
Also, why is there a competition where if I don’t get enough XP I’m in demotion zone? It really takes a toll on many learner’s who are here to learn and not to compete, I for one am here to learn not to compete with people all across the world. The feeling that you’re in demotion zone makes you feel terrible and not necessarily come back online to learn more. Please go back to unlimited hearts and free matching madness/80xp lessons. Also, the competition aspect should go too.

BUT these few things you updated I did not like it..😞 1)The Character Xp problem= You see, when I unlock character (like lily choosing her dress) I play that to get like 40xp. And with a boost, I get like 80xp. But now you ask to pay like 100 gems for it😱😭.Why😓😭😭😭?! Can you like please de-activate that feature🥺😢?! 2)Super Duolingo ruins it= It was better if it was free and the super 🤩 Duolingo thing always shows up ⬆️ 😠😣. Would be better if you remove this👍🏼. 3)Why did you remove the hearts?!?! From the infinity hearts ♾️ ❤️(WITHOUT super Duolingo), you made it to 5 hearts❤️ ?!?! That is absolutely 💯 NOT FAIR 😟😣. I never thought learning a language will be this easy. They know how to start with baby steps and how to take it over . Like this is literally amazing. Its just been 8 days and I couldn’t wait to drop this review. So a tip from my side for new users when you’re focused on learning, when you finish a chapter it’ll ask if you want to finish the legendary exercises also . Dont do that right away. Finish one whole unit. When you advance to second unit, now finish the previous unit’s legendary exercises. It’ll be a great revision. Idk how it ll work for others. It worked for me. Nevertheless this app is uhmmmmmmm-mazeeeeee-zinggg!

I’ve been using the app for the past 6 years. I started learning German. Recently Super Duolingo was introduced. With the advent of that the new gameplay such as Rapid review and Match madness can be learned or interacted with only with the use of gems. And to take things up a notch, ads and limited hearts (5 a day) for daily practice who are not a subscriber. The app has been amazing all these years and not yet we have ads popping up now and then… The interface is well built and has all the intricate details well planned out. It would a lot better if we roll back to unlimited hearts and use of match madness and rapid review without paying with gems.

1- this is just a minor issue so i still gave 5 stars. i was playing match madness (45xp) and finished matching exactly at the same time the timer ended. at first, i thought it still gave me the xp, but i didn't even get 15xp, (the level before that) and that was really strange. the way i looked at it, i finished exactly when there was 1 second left, so i should have gotten 45xp right? 30 gems for nothing i guess..
2- if someone mentioned duolingo to learn a language to you, please use this app, it is the best app for language learning. one of the main reasons duolingo is so famous for learning a language, is because they make it FUN. you will WANT to learn a language when you see how fun their levels are, what stories they tell, and the design and everything is just amazing. 5/5 stars for the awesome experience duolingo!

This used to be such a great app for learning any language. They still have many great exercises but now they have kept ads in between each lesson which is very frustrating. Earlier we used to have unlimited hearts but now we get only 5. Even to get legendary on levels, you now have to spend 100 gems which was free earlier. Very disappointed with this change.
Even there is one bug which doesn’t properly records the progress. I have seen it happen multiple times now. Sometimes when I complete a lesson, it would reset to that same lesson again.
Now it doesn’t feel like that productive that it used to be with all these ads and bugs.

I have been a very long term user of this app. I get that apps eventually need to monetise and the initial efforts at this were very non invasive where you could buy timers or gems. But apparently that was not enough and they have introduced ads and limited hearts. Ads are somewhat tolerable if not done too much but limited hearts are where I draw the line. It’s literally blocking learning. You have to wait for hours for them to recharge. So now the app wants to determine the time when I should learn rather than me deciding it. This doesn’t work for a busy person and a casual learner. If I was a more serious learner then I would have bought the subscription plan. But since that is not the case this is where I part ways with this app.

see, duolingo is more of a refresh app then an app to learn any language from without having a background of it. most of the lessons and units are just revisions of the previously learnt vocabulary and we barely learn anything new. preferably if you would like a faster and more efficient way to learn your desired language, maybe you should switch to learning from a professional perspective or a friend who is native: duolingo wont help you throughout your real journey, just as a revision method. I only downloaded it because i wanted to learn French and because of how it’s known, as a joke. just save your storage and time by deleting the app or never downloading it in the first place if you actually have ambition.

Like countless others, I was drawn in because of my desire to learn new languages. And for the most part, the app did not disappoint. First of all, despite the barrage of ads, it offers the highest quality of free content. Lesson size is optimal, whether you have 15 minutes or a couple of hours to spare. Not too heavy on grammar but that can be a good thing as one can dive into the language basics and get familiar with the language before tackling the difficult aspects of grammatical concepts. Gamification of the learning process also helps motivate and engage you and maintaining the daily streak can frankly be addicting! Premium subscription model is reasonable compared to the competition. But this is where the problem begins. They promise you multi device support with premium subscription but they may not necessarily deliver. In my case, my progress is fragmented across my devices, and only one device shows the true status of my progress. The other devices contain my progress which is about a month old. I am regretting purchasing the annual subscription now. Maybe you should be careful too.

When i see the message "you are in demotion zone" i don’t feel very well i feel like i am not studying well and not good at learning i take time to learn and understand i am not only learning it here but on online classes, google, duolingo, all by myself but i don’t like the system to rank ourselves And compare us and online people and the demotion zome or the promotion zone or any competetion in this app, i just want to say that please remove the competition between learners and if you want to keep that please add a option to enable the competition and rank system because i am here to learn a language to take time studying not to grind in learning and bot really learning the language.

I am in the process of learning German.. I have been using the app for the last 9 days and have managed to complete the first 4 units.. The classes are quick and streamlined.. the app allows you to read, write and speak the words and therefore greatly helps in memorising vocabulary.. As you advance the newer units keep bringing back words/phrases you learned in earlier units which serves as a good refresher/revision. Daily and weekly leaderboards provide a push to study more and top the leaderboard.. Looking forward to complete all the levels and units to give a final review. Note for the developers: I would suggest a vocabulary page showing all the words we have studied so far just for a quick recap ( with meaning and pronunciation).. right now I am having to keep notes for the slightly more difficult words and their spellings.. especially phrases such as “sorry - es tut mir leid”..

It includes various challenges and quizzes to help you check your knowledge and the weekly leaderboard aids in building up a competitive nature in you to learn a new language. I am huge fan of this app though I have spent a most time only recently.
But I am very disappointed by not able to use my booster which I receive as early bird. This discourages me to use the app.
Most of the times I couldn’t consume the booster which I can only use between 6pm to 12am my office time. Due to this I skipped using the app as early bird, resulting in missing practice for the day. If possible you can check my track.
You should promote users to use the app more and for that let them use the booster in their free time and not only for 6 hours. Indirectly you don’t want this booster to be used by people who are not free specially for those 6 hours. I could’ve understood if the booster is available only for 6hrs and then expires, but restricting it from 6pm to 12am seems fishy or foolish.
You are seemed to be focused on increasing your app peak users before 12pm and after 6 pm for some reason I can’t understand. But I am sure if you remove this restriction more people will use the app regularly and spend more time on it.

I have been using this app for some months now to learn Korean and I was quite satisfied with it. However, lately the app has been not been functioning as smoothly as before. When I finish a lesson, it takes a long time to grade. So long that my phone turns off. Also, it rejects an answer even for the slightest mistakes, which did not happen before.
Furthermore, my skills keep on cracking. I don’t know if that’s supposed to happen. Also if you could just add some audio lessons for Korean language to boost the speaking and listening skills, it would be great.

The app is great for revising what you know and to keep practicing but it is VERY difficult to learn a completely new language just from the app - the notes and tips are not accessible unless you open it from your browser and all these years later, I just can’t understand why. There are dozens of threads on the forums wondering this as well and it seems like a very BASIC and easy addition to the app to assist people with learning their desired language. Having to toggle between a browser and the app, especially on a smartphone is very frustrating and slows down the process of learning a lot. It breaks my concentration and I can tell you that after at least 7 years of trying to learn a new language using this app - I have not been successful because of something as simple as this. Definitely don’t bother paying for the premium version of the app - the lessons don’t show up then either.

I’ve been learning Spanish on this app and so far, I love it!! I’m able to say full sentences after only three days of learning, and with the helpful tips and motivational messages, I’m really moving forward! The xp boosts, suits that you can buy for Duo, funny characters, etc. makes the app a lot more interactive and fun. The leaderboards competitions and timed challenges help me improve faster and the stories are very funny. It works great and it keeps track of my learning and understanding easily. I’m already annoying mom by saying things in Spanish all the time! It’s great for kids and a must get for sure! 😁😁👍👍

First of all , kudos for developing such an productive application for making our learning process easy and fun. I love the app because it gives me confidence in learning new words and statements.
I firstly started using Duolingo application in my laptop ( the web version ) and i found that we can keep track of the words which we have learned or covered during the learning process , this way i can keep track of the words and the meaning of it whenever i tend to forget them. When i started using the mobile app version of duolingo , its very compact and easy ; but the only feature which i miss in the mobile app version is the “vocabulary” section. So going forward or in the next version upgrade, please add this feature too , this will make learning process even more easier and effective for the people who are using this application.
But overall , this is an great application for those who wanted to build up and learn a new language.

I love every aspect of this app. It teaches you everything from the basics and makes learning so much fun with great animation and different types of exercises. It rewards you with with gems for completing certain goals, weekly challenges and daily streaks. It has a leaderboard among people learning at the moment and a profile page which your friends can follow to keep healthy completion going. We can only have a conversation if we live in that surrounding. But there is also one more way to do a proper conversation. During the COVID lockdown period, I felt like leaning German language to keep the hope of visiting the Bavarian region for an extended period in the future. My son introduced me to Duolingo. After initial hesitation, I took a liking to this way of learning - the Duolingo app makes learning Germany a game with rewards and gems and quizzes and more; there is ample scope to repeat lessons or to move at a faster pace. Also, for me, it is more fun because I have my sister-in-law who has also started learning German on Duolingo.
I find the app brilliant in its design, encouraging in the way the lessons are designed and engaging through various stories that are available to read. On tap access to word meanings also makes it easy to attemp the exercises.
I give it a five star rating - I have been on a 86 day streak and look forward to spending time in this app every day.

Guys, believe me, this is the best language learning app on Earth for English speakers (or those who already know English till, at least, intermediate level). Learning Romance languages is particularly fun here. German, Russian and Turkish are also fine. I found Arabic learning on Duolingo a little confusing although I already know some Arabic. I would like to have Farsi (Persian) as well on the platform. Please add it when you have developed the language-learning course (if you’re already doing it). I really want to learn that language. Overall, I will give it 5 starts out of 5. It gives you most of its awesome features in its free version only. Although, those who can afford should subscribe to their Plus Membership and contribute to the cause of language learning and its preservation across the globe. Cheers!

I was sitting today minding my own business when i received your passive aggressive notification and I shared the same with my gf and she showed me how I should be considerate about the feelings of my apps.
Going back and thinking about it, I realised that I “used” you a couple of times trying my hand at Japanese and I know you asked for a long term commitment then and you brushed off my act of not buying the premium version as a negligence and you still expected that I would come back to studying the new language because after all thats the entire reason I downloaded you.
Well, I don't know how to say this, but learning Japanese is not a priority to me right now but I promise we will give it a go in a couple of months or years, when I am more mature to handle the responsibility of you and who knows I might even buy the premium version.

I was drawn to write this review because of the excellence of the UX. It’s brilliantly designed & so well designed. Every aspect of this app screams out polish. Thanks for such a good effort, I will be buying a paid subscription of the app soon.
If I can add one comment: I wish there was a way to prevent “Enter Button” to submit answers in the typing exercises. There have been many occasions I tapped it by mistake while typing an answer, I trust many may have experienced the same.
If time, permits please take a look at the wrong answers submitted by pushing “Enter Button”, I would guess many of them may obviously look like a too early submission by a wrong press.

Praise first: Duolingo is a great way to start learning a language and makes it really fun to keep going. It’s easy to get disheartened but the fun and game-like design of the app makes it easy to want to keep going! Also, it’s free and offers a lot of languages.
Points for improvement:
- It needs to involve more speaking since that’s the most practical application of a language.
- Building on the above point, some exercises are too easy, especially with the lack of interactive speaking involved. It’s easy to ascertain the meaning of a sentence if there are a very limited number of answers for the blanks.
- Out of the three languages I’m learning, Spanish is the most well done, followed by Japanese but the Russian isn’t too good. The pronunciation is unclear and there’s no attempt to familiarise one with the Cyrillic alphabet before throwing them into words. Which would be fine, since I’m here to learn basic speaking but the accented and unclear voice makes its way too difficult to understand the right way of saying anything.

I have been learning a language on Duolingo for over 60 days now and I say I am pretty satisfied. On repeatedly seeing the advertisement to upgrade to plus by first testing it for 7 days, I clicked okay. 4 days later, I unsubscribed to Plus through the list of subscriptions menu in my iPhone. You can check the records and confirm when I unsubscribed. I really felt bad when today, I received a message from my bank that an amount of ₹769 was debited from my account. I tried to raise a ticket to Apple and without taking the request, they displayed a message that said they ‘determined’ that I do not qualify for a refund (not even hearing my case).
Now Duolingo, what star rating should I give you? For the app, I give you 5 Stars without a doubt. But for the disappointment, a 2-Star rating.

The thing is I’ve already done a lot of French at school and for me to complete every single level on every single lesson is super time consuming.
I was hoping you could introduce a format in which if you complete a test without any mistakes you can skip the level and retain your gems. You know what I mean? Because like I know all the stuff at the beginning but I wanna fast forward to the difficult parts. It would be brilliant if you guys could look into this.

Duolingo is a good app. It offers many languages and it is good for basic understanding of a language. If you want to seriously learn a language, Duolingo can help fuel your interest. The lessons are easy to complete and very repetitive, so the words really resonate with you.
But If you want to continue learning a language, do not think that Duolingo will teach you completely. Go for classes or buy a textbook or CD, and use Duolingo as a side tool. It will help your understanding but it will not help you learn the language.
The reasons for this being:
The audio is completely computerised. It is robotic and will not help much. And some letters or words are not pronounced correctly. Believe me, I speak near-fluent Hindi and the pronunciations of some letters and words really shocked me.
Next, some grammar is incorrect. Again, I tried
some of the Hindi lessons and some words are not being used correctly.
If it is like this for one language, one should not assume that the other languages are different. Every language in this app must have some problems or another.
I highly suggest this app for basics and as a side project. However, do not depend on it completely. If you truly want to learn a language, you will put more effort then just downloading an app.

This app is the best free language learning app, period. It’s easy to pickup, use and you actually learn a lot if you regularly practice. I have been using this app for a few months now for learning French and I have to say, from knowing nothing about French, I can now actually speak and understand very basic French(at least a little bit). This app is a powerful learning device and I’m sure you can learn the basics of a language if you regularly practice everyday(or every few days). It also has a vibrant community of over 100 million learners and the Club system, which not so robust, still lets you learn new words and makes learning fun(also the Duolingo memes are funny too). But personally speaking I have a huge problem, if I use the app for a few minutes, the speaker of my IPhone 6 stops working and the sound doesn’t some out from the speaker. It just gives a subtle buzzing sound and I have to restart my phone to fix this. This literally makes learning impossible and my speaker breaks each time. This is the only reason that makes me rate this app 3 stars. I think this is just a problem with my phone so I’m sure it’ll be fine with others.

The application is great for learning languages but the part of “Club” needs some improvement.
1) There should be a feature to block someone from joining your club again and again. As we are required to make a new group when that happens. I was being harassed by a man(I believe he had some mental issues) and duolingo did nothing about it. Their reply came a 7-10 days after registering the complaint that I should make a new group.
If there’s no possibility of of introducing such features, atleast add a feature to request, when someone joins the group instead of joining directly.
2) There should be an option to pin a post. As new members join the club, they should know the proper rules of the club if the club is for little advanced learners. Like for example, ‘Inactive members will be removed from the group’ or ‘Only speaking English is allowed’ etc etc.

I think the greatest success of a language teaching course is to keep the student hooked and that is one of the many wonderful features of Duo. It's not just reminders too. Duo is designed to reward continued commitment to the course. With features like identifying weak phrases and mixing up words you made a mistake on you realise that the makers are really trying to be helpful. It's not always appeasement either!
