Hopeless negative news

You put News which is worthless at specially highlighting celebrities day to day activities.

Put something worth reading and positive at times.

Put more about sports which makes sense and not gossip about sports person.

News should have content and not gossip to makes people feel negative and anxious

Bring iPad app

The ios app is fine, but it’s disappointing to see that there is no iPad app. A lot of screen real estate is wasted when using the iOS app on the iPadOS. It would be a great value add if you guys can come up with native support for iPads.

This app focusses on only advertisements

The app totally messes up and doesnot focus on the news and is only concerned about advertising, while I scroll through any article and even while scrolling if the finger touches the advertisement, it won’t scroll and only takes me to the advertisement page, this is totally frustrating. The app just wants to push ads to us anyhow at any cost.

Too many ads, which I understand is mainly for sustainability of the brand. But every 15-30 sec there is an ad pop-up, which is very irritating and forces me to move to other news apps eventually.

TOI+ doesnt work properly and Useless Epaper Section

1. TOI+ doesnt work properly. I am unable to save Some stories that are under toi+. Also, lot of times, i am unable to read saves stories while in flight. It keeps on saying that you are offline despite saving stories before putting it on flight mode.

2. There is a useless section of Epaper which has 1 day old news. I don’t understand one thing - who needs an Epaper when it has- one day old news and there is an app which gives news instantly. We are having app so that we get information immediately. Your epaper readers would be very less in terms of % of total users. Instead of that, earlier you guys used to have Briefs Section on which i used to get all the news in concrete and collated manner which has gone. Home page has lot of unnecessary news which aren’t relevant at all. Please get it rectified asap.

My favourite newspaper

For many years now, ToI has been my newspaper. I don’t plan to change that any time soon.

My one suggestion would be keep the reports brief. Many times I skip reports because of their length. At least the online edition can tie up with an AI product to summarize reports to required length (30% or 15%) without missing the core content.

The latest app update is atrocious..reinstate the earlier view

Who thought of the new look n feel of the app? Totally messed up. Latest/ breaking news appears only in picture stories. New in political and india sections is 4-7 days old.

Really sad to see that a prominent news app in India is not optimized for reading experience on an iPad. Too many notifications

A lot of news that this app deems important is really not. Too many updates about crime and cricket. Multiple notifications about the same news. Even after changing settings and preferences about news topics it makes no difference. TOI really needs to filter the headlines because there’s too much unnecessary information “news” which is a waste of my time.

Logical and a balanced presentation of news and views.

Reading Times is my first priority daily. And when any important news come, I straight away open TOI app. The paper is reliable, accurate and presents in-depth analysis. These days I am more connected with the cricket commentary and score board for ball by ball news. I want to especially mention that your commentator boys are wonderful! The Widget doesn’t redirect to the actual news

Recently I have com across this issue and it does not rectify with updates.

Earlier when one clicked a particular news it would open the app and redirect it to that specific news. However in the recent times when clicked, the app redirects to the main page rather than that specific news. It’s endlessly irritating to keep looking for that actual news in the whole app.

Hate the media outlet more than the app

The app has issues of its own but my bigger concern is with what this media outlet considers to be “news” - relentlessly following bollywood actors around town and keeping people apprised of their whereabouts is NOT “news.” Nobody cares about some attention seeking C-list celebrity trying to get some work in the industry. There are very real problems going on in the country and the world and some great achievements as well. Instead of trying to distract the world from its problems by bombarding our notifications with “celebrity news” how about trying to inform the people of what’s happening in the world.

App Demanding Notifications- very distracting

On the Main page in the App, near the top right corner there is a bell (🔔) sign which keeps on dangling/ vibrating basically asking to turn on the notification. I don’t want notifictions and am surprised that that you would use such underhand tactics to continuously put a distraction for those people who don’t switch on the notification.

This is very distracting so much that I now try to avoid opening the app and am looking for other news apps because of this continuous distraction.

It’s like reading a load of hogwash which is really - blah.

Your kind of businesses have to shape the world with good things that happen and not fill it up with

1) Fake news - the kinds that make money with a trick - only thing and trick that works is - hard work and sincerity to what we work as- now as far as your articles go - well that’s what is missing and I really will NOT BECOME a paid subscriber even if it is discounted !! Don’t need to try so hard to SELL if the quality is good.

2) Improve the quality of the information

a) Don’t sensationalize and increase anxiety

b) Do not advocate let’s say articles/content

that gives the wrong way possible ideas to younger people who ARE SUPPOSED TO LEARN and not find shortcuts like in your articles - how this person made insane huge amounts of money by doing some magic trick - it’s an eyesore as well as a Mind SORE.

3) Eyecatchy new is good - but don’t go overboard with headlines that trigger unwanted flows of thoughts in the minds of a vast public that is already looking to escape a miserable and tough existence due to many factors - financially, professionally and any other ways.

Iphone 12 with latest ios 15.5 is getting heated up while exploring the app

My iphone12 with ios 15.5 is getting heated up while exploring this app or watching videos within this app. This heating up is only with this app. I checked up with Apple Care who advised me to liase with the app developer for app compatibility with ios 15.5 as this is happening only while using TOI app. Can you pls check the compatibility of the app with ios 15.5 or suggest reason why this is happening while im using this app only.

Why no epaper & landscape mode?

This new update has really messed up the epaper. If given a choice I will like to read a news paper the old school way, but again moving progressively I read in e-paper PDF format on my iPad. I used to download it & read it in my leisure sweet time. Also the earlier app could be used in landscape mode, so reading was very easy. This new app makes reading difficult as it’s specifically made to read on mobile. I subscribed for the e-paper but now I can’t get it. I have given a single star just because now it’s difficult to read if it isn’t on the landscape mode. I won’t be subscribing again to TOI unless there is an improvement for the given points.

NSFW content on main page

TOI publishes contents like Rakhi Sawant flashing underwear on the main page. Their page is replete with bikini photos. I tried multiple times in settings to control these. The app has a control to stop videos but it does not effect on the content. It feels pornographic to some extent. Why can’t they have it In controlled section for readers who are interested in such content. Even mailing them has not helped. They don’t care about readers. Just want to catch eyeballs.

AWEFUL!!! your app doesn’t open after update

It’s with utter dissatisfaction, I have to state that your ToI app has stopped opening on my iPhone 5s (iOS 12.5.5) post the recent update.

I had meticulously checked the compatibility of this update and only then went ahead for it on my phone...but post the update, it stopped working for me now (the app opens, shows your brand logo, available in 14 languages and closes on me)

I am surprised to see how can a company of your stature can release an update without proper backward compatibility check? Really AWEFUL experience, guys.

Now your app is sitting in my phone as a price of junk which I have to delete and look for a better solution, if it’s not resolved.

Lots of bugs!

While using the app, when an ad comes up and you close it, the next news gets refreshed to some old news and it keeps on refreshing a few times. It’s really irritating as the news you were earlier reading can be found nowhere. Have experienced this issue in the ‘Briefs’ section, since a few weeks. Please look into this. Thanks!

Bad App; too many devious ad popups

The app has enough ads and paid content; to top it up very frequent popup ads are jarring wne you are reading some content, once close they popup again in under 10 seconds. Also the devious app developers open the popup ad content on the browser even if you click on the ‘x’ of the ad. How much greedy the app developer is? you want money from ad in between the content. You want money for premium content (times now subscription). You want money by popping up ads. You also want money by forcing users to click and get that revenue too even if the user doesn’t want to click on the ad. Why give a free app; just make the app paid and remove the annoying ads if you are so much behind the revenue; at-least don’t spoil the content and app experience.

Not a News App anymore

I was a fan of TOI. But the gradual depreciation of quality has made this app pathetic. The app has gone from bad to worst. It seems the hunger for money has made them forget the sole purpose of a news app. Lately the ad keeps popping up in between.

Also, many of would agree with me that the TOI obsession with bikni clad celebs or exposing celeb pics from insta has just diluted the whole purpose.

I just don’t get it… why a celeb rocking a bikni is a news???

Guys I think ya all need to change. But I know you must be think yourself as a news giant so why would you pay heed to a user complaining.

Why advertisements on Paid subscription and you filthy idiots somehow u pollute the app with advertisements and irritate users with in the app in certain sections like digital there are advertisements and you don’t comply with norms of paid subscription

Pop-up Advt malfunctioning

The recent update has come with more pop-up advertisements. The problem is these pop ups take the full screen now and the cross button on top right does not function properly so you can’t close the advertisement at all.

Finally you have to close the app completely including removing it from frequently open apps and then restart the App to start reading the news.

And this happens every 3-4 minutes so basically you have to go to some other app to read the news.

Either you take the paid subscription or don’t use our app - this seems to be the ultimatum.

Will have to probably uninstall the app.

Log in and subscription issue

I have yearly subscription for TOI and Economics times both through Apple store. I can not use this since it asks repeatedly to log in with password, with password saved it doesn’t start, you have to log in with OTP. I am fed up of this , asking for OTP and then log in , repenting why I have subscribed .

Please let me know what’s wrong.

Paid Subscription process is awful

The process of subscribing to TOI+ is nothing short of an ordeal . If it wasnt for your great articles and content would have quit trying long ago . Consume content on mobile and web and tried applying for it via mobile first - never got the OTP . Have tried several times over months . On writing to you got a silly reply after 15 days - please try again . Today Tried successfully via the web - Paid 599 , deducted and still showing i dont have access to TOI+ on the mobile . Guys - who runs your IT !

Undesired update & useless prime membership

A recent update that has removed the ability to filter sections on the homepage makes the app almost unusable. Have been using the app for over 7-8 years but seriously considering switching as it’s really frustrating to be bombarded with so much entertainment news and no way to filter them out.

Got a times prime membership 6 months back for no ads, but the app logs me out after every session :) Not sure if it’s a bug or a strategy, hasn’t been fixed for a while now

I would like to know why you did not shown full story and only the one side inclined towards rich doctors rich hospital? First of all you shared partial video on TOI after one day where as the full video was already went viral on social media on first day itself before TOI even know about it.

Whole world know that the HIRANANDANI hospital made bill of 25LC for 23 days Jaiwant Kadam (Auto Riksha driver) admitted then it’s logical from where even his family can be able to pay for it on top of that hospital were threatened accused family that they will not release the dead body until his family pays the bill?

Awful Update

The recent update made a good going app, a worse one altogether. The worst part being now you cannot choose the particular sections you want under the top tab. Every section is at display, making us to waste our time on the news section we don’t want. Also, the overall look seems to be taking far more space and is far less convenient than what it was before

Please, if you could resort to the old version, that would be best. But, if not, at least allow us to manage the sections that we want

Degeneration

I am long time user of timesofindia. People around me complained of their sleazy, cheap stuff but I told them look at their other stuff which is very good. The crap is probably just to sustain a business.

But now, I am done with them. Things have deteriorated so much that the paper has just become a vehicle for vulgar photos of stars or a tabloidish gossip mongering tool on personal lives of celebrities...

Sports and economy, my favourites are now just an after thought for this paper.

Move on to mint, the print or the like, this paper is beyond repair now. Sorry timesofindia you have lost it.

Need ET print edition in app, among the best in the world

It's been close to 6 years that I've been using this TOI app. I must say after going through news apps around the world, the iOS version of the TOI app is the best in the world. No news app comes even close to its neat classification, easy accessibility and the best of them all, the print edition of the paper being available in digital version on the app itself. Just for reading this epaper in the app, I'm planning to buy a new iPad.

Requesting Economic Times to also include the print edition in their iOS app version. That will make the party sweeter.

Please remove pop up ads

Used this app to stay connected to updates until they started putting full screen pop up ads of 5 secs which can't be avoided. As if the in line ads aren't enough. I understand that the revenue is from ads but the pop up ads ruins the experience.

Otherwise the app is amazing for its real time updates of news coverage. Updated the rating!

Best app for news but problem with comments bug

This is a good app for news and no one else stands out. But issue is with comments section. When i post the comment and some one likes dislikes or comment on my post i can’t see it back. Gets an email also but the link to the email doesn’t open in app and even in browser the link doesn’t lead to my comment where i could see my post.

Toi widget messed up

The latest update has totally messed up the toi widget. No headlines visible in ios 13 dark mode. Only their thumbnails visible. Everything was working fine before this update. What update was this??? Dont your testers check once before pushing the update on live updated version???

I have updated the star rating from 1 to 4 as requested by you. But please try to understand users point of view. I use the toi widget to checkout headlines numerous times in a day and when it gets buggy after an update its frustrating. Please make this app ios 13 dark mode ready.

Am tired of your ads

Dear Times of India you have many ways to make money and I am sure you are making a lot of it through your newspaper. My experience with your app it’s becoming bad every day particularly with your videos. Any video I play I get a 15 second advertisement that I cannot skip and the worst part is that for every video I play I get a 15 second advertisement. This is unacceptable and if this continues I’m sure I’m going to remove your application from my phone. At the moment the video ad is related to ICICI bank and I started hating ICICI bank more and more every time I see it’s ad.

Ad pop ups a big nuisance!

These fullscreen ad pop-ups which have been appearing over the last few days are a big nuisance! Come on TOI, you can definitely do better than this. You’re a big company and should not think of minting money at the expense of user convenience.

I use your app to read the news, not play games or other leisure activities. It’s really annoying especially when I’d wish to do a quick reading of the news in the midst of my busy schedule but have to entertain these pop-ups!

Think of your readers and do better!

Good App

I had earlier reviewed the app positively. But now with the latest update, the app suddenly pops up an ad and starts playing music loudly. Although it’s only for 5s, it leaves you scrambling for the mute button. Especially if you are reading late night when your kids are asleep. I am ok with pop up ads but the music is just annoying. If the bug is not fixed soon, i will have to stop using the app.

Biased news. Irresponsible journalism.

TOI is one among the few mainstream news channels which has gone rogue in the past few years. Majority of the news are biased. There is not a trace of investigative journalism but irresponsible and ignorant ones.

News are rigged to the benefits of certain political parties and leaders. Some of the national incidents in the recent past has been reported without even checking the truth behind it. One has to look into international media to understand the uncovered stories. Their biased views does not stop with politics but even disseminated to sports section.

Only few mainstream media like NDTV and the Hindu sticks to the responsible journalism needed to uphold the democratic values of this country anymore.

I feel pity for using this app for past two years and my conscience compelled to write this review before deleting this app.

Intrusive advertisements

A very well designed app with easy customisations. But over time advertisements are becoming more and more intrusive. Advertisements in one corner are no problem but auto playing video advertisements are irritating and disgusting. Developers need to take care that it doesn’t become so much overflowing with ads that we have to uninstall it.

Pathetic Media group n app

It’s a shame TOI is a biased , anti national media house. How can you approve such headlines for terrorist as a local youth and army jawans getting killed n not martyr. You have been biased since long only to make money and spread All negativity in society, my son subscribed to the school edition of TOI it’s pathetic you publish all negativity that will hard the young budding minds and have worst impact for long. You are exposed and must amend it immediately to correct it for the betterment of the society and Bharat.

I want to rate negatively like your news but there is no provision hence 1 star....

Dumped the TOI paper long back now time to dump the all the apps from BC group.

Video ads play randomly

Video ads (with audio) auto start. So at times a video starts playing on speaker when you are in a public space.

Also, once i was listening to music, and opened an article, the music stopped (supposedly for the a/v ad), and my music wont restart even from the control center, toi ap had taken over the music controls. I had to close the toi app to play my music. (I am not talking about news videos, this happens while reading normal text articles)

This is Annoying at times!

Unable to download. Other downloads work fine

I gave 5 star to my previous experience.

I clicked option to download but it’s not starting. I downloaded other few apps like Whatsapp, google maps. They downloaded fine. Only issue with TOI.

I closed all apps and restarted phone. Still no help. Not compatible with iOS 12?

Problem is BACK.

This issue had been resolved earlier BUT NOW IT IS BACK. SEE BELOW

Latest problem - while the user is in the middle of reading a news story, the page refreshes suddenly with a new banner ad, and control goes right back to the top of the page. One had to scroll back to the spot where one was reading. And then the page refreshes again! And again, because the banner ads change every 5-10 seconds.

Reader experience be damned.

My confusion

I have been a loyal reader of TOI for half a century. I was in love with their paper variety. But with this app I am facing a devilish to divorce my first newspaper printed in paper with lovely smell of ink or to use the TOI app that makes my life smooth. Even before my newspaper boy drops the paper on my door step I have already read the main and city pages of the days issue!

I think I will shift permanently to this app. Let my Raddiwala cry over losing another seller!

Anti Hindu and anti India

After being a loyal reader of TOI for more than 5 years today I uninstalled it because of a simple reason coz you guys are running a anti India and anti Hindu agenda. Quite frequently I see that when it comes to Hindu u straight away write Hindu person did this did that and Whenever some other community is involved you say “one particular community” why this double standard ? And one last thing please ask your editors to think about some more lines whenever there is a update on CPEC you always write it’s a 50 billion $ project. Don’t copy paste every time . Horrible App

The new update has made the app most horrid, adds automatically starts playing on your mobile data even though you have disabled the same and even though you haven’t clicked on the ad. As soon as you open the app full screen ad automatically starts playing video for it. 😡

Edit:- the New Version of the app is again the same, starts playing Video ads in whatever section you are and doesn’t stop even if you pull it away, it reappears immediately in like 5 seconds

The app keeps on crashing

Hi, Since yesterday whenever I try to open the app, it crashes within few seconds and the app gets closed thereafter. This has started happening since yesterday I believe, even though I have the latest version installed. Please correct it.

TOI has fallen into hands of BJP propagandas

App keeps crashing and the usually the real stories are not reported. I’ve commented once against the current administration and from there on I’m mostly not able to comment at all. The app doesn’t let me post. I’ve raised the same query on email as well however my request has gone on deaf ears. Media should not be biased. Whenever there is an article their is always BJP propaganda/ or anti nation sentiments in the comment section. What about the news on Finance bill (IT officers powers- Corruption Legalised)/ CJI/ demonetisation / GST repercussions?? I’m neither a pro BJp or Pro Congress but media being unfair in a democracy definitely stings.

Version 4.6.6 Ads keep popping up multiple times

This is in response to a bug I had reported, wherein reading articles was difficult as popup ads were continuously popping up despite closing them. Issue resolved by developers, hence changing rating to 5 star.

Suggestion

Hi TOI, I have simple suggestion that might be helpful for you. People like me doesn’t understand all the words used in the News. Implementing a dictionary feature to checkout the meaning quickly instead of opening another App would improve better user experience. Moreover, there are many like me who want to improve our English skills and having something that is easy to go through would be beneficial.

The App is unreliable & frequently crashing.

Is there no good Software Engr. In your pay role ? If yes then what are they doing to remove this menace ! Moreover be rational . Crush those who support separatists . Pen is always mightier than sword.

Among all those “ SOLD OUT” & biased media world in India Times of India & their internet is like Oasis in this bad unfaithful lier media world of India. I’m reading TOI SINCE 1965 & found the my one.
