It’s really amazing to have such a digital form of new paper like the Hindu. But if it’s possible to download complete news paper page or enable writing tools on the digital page will definitely benefit lots of readers specially preparing for civil services. Subscription purchased but not active on all apps
I purchased the subscription from The Hindu ePaper app for The Hindu ePaper + frontline for an annual plan. I am able to use the subscription in The Hindu ePaper app, but I’m not able to use the same in “The Hindu app” . I’m not even able to see from where I can download the front line magazine. I think there is some bug with these two apps.

I like the app but two things it hogs storage there’s no option to set the storage and when zooming in and out it loads idk the reason for it ! Very Disappointed - Worst App Experience
I have paid for a one-month subscription, but the app is not opening at all. Even after payment, it keeps asking for a subscription again! There is no proper customer support, no response, and no way to resolve the issue. Totally waste of money and time. The app is full of glitches, and customer service is non-existent. Unable to open epaper/long loading time of minutes
Im using an ipad 6th gen, the epaper generally takes about 30 seconds to load, but sometimes it takes several minutes, today it has totally failed to open. Rest of the apps are working just fine, its just the hindu epaper app.

Please act on feedback
The problem with the app is if one is reading an article by opening it the app should show the complete article irrespective of the fact the that the part of article is on different pages. Currently one has to close the article then scroll through pages and then jump on to the page where the rest of the article is. The reason one moves to digital news is for convenience. I dearly love the Hindu App and it makes reading more convininet especially as a college student, although I do find it a bit slow when you first open the app. I can click multiple times on the paper of the day and still it buffers or takes time to open. I just wish the buffer issue can be solved because I’ve had to go out of the app, refresh the app multiple times before it opens, and if I’m given breaks of 20 mins I don’t want to spend 5-8 mins trying to open the app.

I thank the team at The Hindu for bringing this e-paper version on to the App Store. Even though we get the print newspaper every morning I hardly read the print paper but the introduction of this e-paper has changed that and now for the past few years I regularly read the editorial and op-Ed pages. The formatting is nice and more enjoyable than the print. The last two pages of context are a very nice addition. Great work The Hindu!

Taking too long
The newspaper viewing and reading is smooth but opening of the newspaper after clicking on it takes atleast 5 minutes. Every time I leave the app and try to open the newspaper again, it takes another 5-10 minutes. This makes it frustrating and really inconvenient. Please resolve this ASAP

Too many glitches in the app
Hi! I’m someone who is getting frustrated everyday after seeing such bad technicalities of the Hindu app. The app doesn’t allow me to change from one addition of the newspaper to another, sometimes from one date to another. Please improve App UI for iOS devices
App UI is not reliable and it tells me that I need to buy a subscription even I already have a subscription. I tried setting my password again to see if that works but I am not able to view ePaper which impacting my work. The Hindu is not reliable in terms of user experience. I purchased a subscription for Frontline magazine as well but I am still struggling to get logged into their app. Money wasted I should have purchased some other newspaper subscription.

Customer’s advice.
Thankful to The Hindu for providing newspaper online and giving us accessibility at anytime and from anywhere. Year by year i have seen many modulations in the app. Those are really helpful to us. There is a suggestion from my side. This app must have background changing feature. Right now, the background is white and the font is on black. We need black background and white colour font in epaper version. I think because of lacking of this feature many people were not subscribing to Hindu. White background will increase the glare of the screen and unable to read the paper for more than 15 mins. The screen is making my eyes strained. And unable to study. I felt offline subscription is best. So please make it possible to introduce background changing option. And also you can add a translator facility to your next update. Im confident that these small changes can make you bring more subscribers from all over the country. Thank you.

Need some more realistic features
I have been the reader of The Hindu newspaper since 2018. As I have to travel daily and can’t keep the physical paper with me I got this ePaper subscription but I am not able to mark notes on the newspaper as it is not compatible with the free notes or anything else on the iPad. I can’t even split the screen when I am using the app for notes making… this should be fixed as I am the aspirant and I need this newspaper on daily basis for the preparation..

CODING 101 - LEARN TO HANDLE EDGE CASES
The app is buggy, your navigations are choppy. I don’t know who approved it to be production ready. Issue 1 - I purchased a subscription using Apple and it’s not reflecting. Issue 2 - When I try to login, the login page does not open on the button click and the app crashes randomly. Issue 3 - When I’m able to land on the login page and click on the Apple symbol to login, the flow transfers to Apple login which completes without issue. When the flow is transferred back, your app is unresponsive. Even the cancel button does not work. Now I’ve lose 999 rs, god knows where the subscription is gone. Make your app much better.

One of the worst service.
I have purchased a subscription, for few days it worked fine but after few days I’m not able to read any e-paper to read. It’s all complete blank. As soon as I open the paper it will become completely black. No matter how many times I have called to service centre and raise my issue, there is no significant response from the backend team. And they asking me to use on the website instead of the app. If I want to use it on the website means then what’s the purpose of this app?

When I open a news article, the text appears on a bright white screen, which can be uncomfortable for readers' eyes. The UI is simple and subtle, but I’m facing issues when it comes to accessibility across multiple devices. My bookmarks are not in sync on my mobile and iPad. Also, previously bookmarked articles are just gone from my iPad.

I have gotten used to the various nuances of this app, like slow loading time of newspaper, accidental trigger of articles, screen resizing issues, but now, the screen is blacking out. I open the app, I select today’s newspaper, it boots up only to find all the pages to be black. How are supposed to use the app like this? What are we supposed to read.

iPad functionality and Poor response
I have been a subscriber for last few years. Earlier the aap was functional on iPad which was giving a true feel of reading physical paper. Last few months, the aap is not functional on iPad forcing us to use the aap on phones which is not convenient, specially for elderly. Please note readership of Hindu is significantly by elderly. Therefore, the designers should walk an extra mile to make the aap elder friendly, such as comfortable reading, for continued readership by the elderly.
Though the aap is designed well, little better and quick response from support team will give better readership. No repose to emails sent to support team.

Worst app UI ever used. It needs a complete overhaul.
The UI needs complete change and a lot of bugs needed to be fixed. The most annoying part is the opening of the news articles on accidental touch. It completely ruins the reading experience. At least make it a double tap to open the article. The news paper takes time to load and sometimes it takes multiple reopening of the app for this to happen. The app crashes many times and most of the times reinstalling is the only solution. The app sometimes shows that there is no subscription when clearly there is one. Every time this happens, one has to either re sign up or reinstall the application, and it’s very annoying. Please make the necessary updates as soon as possible.

I’ve been using the app from around 3 years and used to think when will the design of app improve. Luckily it improved a lot recently and I’m very happy with it and read more often than earlier because of it.
One more request which I think many would still be anticipating is - enabling light and dark mode automatically. Note it is manual and is an inconvenience.

Sudden closing of the app
Sometimes on random days the app starts automatically closing from the screen, I have tried to open it genuinely a lot of times. Restarting my device, uninstalling and then reinstalling the app, getting rid of unwanted storage were the ways I tried but the app keeps on closing and doesn’t open before two or three days.

App keeps crashing
Since the latest update the app keeps crashing. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app with no luck.
I don’t know whom to contact to correct this.
Seriously the app development team and THG needs to get its act together and put in the time and effort to develop a stable, easy to read and enjoy experience. If this same trend continues I’m definitely considering not to renew my subscription of the newspaper i love so much.
The downward spiral of the quality of the app seems like a bottomless pit.

Worst responsiveness
The newspaper takes long time to load & after that if we want to read yesterday’s or previous ones,it doesn’t even open with only first & last pages being visible Over that there are lot of problems in opening articles in today’s paper too means that the app is of no use since we can’t read anything at all…. Kindly fix it asap or return the subscription amount to the iOS users

Needs to get basics right
I have been a subscriber of the Hindu for years now, and preferred reading the ePaper on Magzter. Once they removed the paper from Magzter and made it exclusive to their own app is when I installed this for the first time.
1. Opening articles due to accidental touches ruins the experience
2. Subscription can stop showing up randomly. One time, when the support team could not fix it, they reset my existing password to map the subscription.
3. No option to delete downloads in one go. If like me, you read the paper on a regular basis, good luck with clearing the downloads to save space. Every download has to be individually long pressed, selected for deletion and then confirmed again. There is a ‘select all’ option that does nothing.
4. UI is quite slow to respond. Sometimes when I select an edition, I don’t know if it’s going to load or not and have to simply stare at the screen for a few seconds before trying again. Haptic or audio feedback to acknowledge the touch would help.

Worst app by Hindu
This is one of the worst app I have come across. It has many bugs and Hindu does not seem to realise and correct the same. I do not know how an organisation like Hindu can release such an app , that too after collecting subscription which is high compared to its competitors. Some of the issues are
1) It takes long time for the ePaper to load and it tests your patience.
2) The app crashes very often annoying the reader.
3) The app does not recognise the subscription and says no subscription. This happens frequently and one has to reinstall the app to enter login details again
4) when one reads an article , mere finger movement for better reading loads a new article.
5) Many a times the pages are not clear enough to read and it is de-focused and not possible to read.
Hope the management feels the responsibility and they need to provide an acceptable app. They need to understand it is not a free app and customers are paying for it

A few fixes would be more than welcome.
These 3 issues have been pointed out by different users as well:
1. An option to clear the downloads in one go is a desperately needed option - you get the option to ‘select all’ but there is nothing after that. No prompt after selecting all the past downloads just makes the aforesaid option literally meaningless.
2. An option to download the paper should be available on the ‘Today’ tab itself. As I see from a review, a user believes the option to download e-paper(s) is no longer available. This just goes on to show that the app is not as UI-friendly as it should be.
3. Change from ‘Landscape’ to ‘Portrait’ could really use some fixes.
The news content is the best there is out there, so why shouldn’t the app be likewise?

Request for a pdf view
Love the app after the updates of 2022. It is much more stable and easy to use. One request: please include a pdf view wherein ipad users can mark/ highlight articles as they read. It is a must to make notes for anyone reading newspaper for examinations. Hoping that this feature comes soon.

Great App, could be better if editable.
It’s a good app to have in your device. It’s reader friendly, easy to use. The option of bookmarking the articles is good.
ONE ISSUE: it would be even more useful if there is options for editing, like highlighting, entering comments or even free-writing on the articles.

Nice app with only 1 issue
The app is really good and works as expected. However after a few days or weeks the downloads tends to slow down the app. There is no easy way to clear up past editions in the downloads section. Would be great if some form of auto deleting of past editions is added. Else after a couple of months I remove the app and reinstall again just to e disk usage.

Improvement needed in touch control
When we read newspaper and accidentally touch an article it opens the article separately
There should be a mode so that we can zoom in and out easily without accidentally opening article

Gets stuck very frequently
Though the newspaper is excellent, app experience is horrible. Currently for last week or so the app gets stuck. Reading the paper on web version

Very buggy app
Its hard to believe that an organisation as prestigious as The Hindu group cannot solve simple even bugs in the app. Major issues immediately visible-
1- The app interface is not in line with the bigger canvas of the tablet form of device.
2-while switching from landscape to portrait or vice-versa, the interface gets stuck in landscape and portrait respectively.
3- There is no option to download the e-paper on the app even though it is possible to do so on the website. This is frustrating.
Also why do you need a separate app for e-paper, just merge it with the main app. How difficult would that be!

Reading experience is very better in this app, i have used it for epaper and really liked it the way the news popup by just a click, only one thing i want, please include a highlight feature.

Best app user experience
It is great to read The Hindu being located in a remote place. Getting a print edition on same day is impossible but made possible with this app. One can read any single news after tapping on it, it can be saved for future reference or shared too.

Still room for improvement
The app has improved it UI, the seamless transition from the paper view to the articles. Even the editorials and gists in the Text & Context portion has been cleaned up very well.
Some suggestions:
1. A dark mode, would be very beneficial.
2. Slight movement (left to right) while reading in the pop up view leads to the article going back to the beginning which is very frustrating especially in reading long articles.
3. Ease to select multiple editions to remove (so as to save space) currently we have to remove it one at a time.
4. A bug which says you have not been subscribed keeps on showing. While this is solved by simply logging out and logging in again, such bugs ought to be resolved immediately as they can lead to loss in trust of customers.

Worst app
Wishing to everyone, I had purchased 1 year subscriber of the ePaper of the Hindu but to my utmost dismay now it’s isn’t showing my account details and showcasing that I haven’t made a purchase of the paper . I have not been able to go through the paper from the last so many sprays , despite emails and their so called toll free customer care nothing is working out , seems like knocking the doors of the consumer court and suing the company for harassment is the only option .

Most unreliable app I ever used in iPad
I switched to ePaper because of the unreliable paper vendor in our area. Having the paper always with me when I travel is also very convenient.
However, the app is full bugs. Within a month it gave subscription expired message and blocked my access despite paying for one year subscription. It took many calls/emails and couple of weeks to restore the access.
Most of the days, the new paper does not load properly. It takes multiple tries. Some time apps shutdown of it’s own.
It’s frustrating that such a reputed publication house struggling to provide a basic digital solution.

Subscription issue
Love the app if only they could fix the recurring subscription expired issue. This results is loss of access to the paper for a couple of days before customer support provides access.

Saving articles in ‘favourites’
Please look into making ‘bookmarked articles’ available across the devices for a given ID and also it gets lost after updating the app or even accidental log out.
