The app icon shows “1” as if there is a new message, even when there isn’t. This disappears if you sign out and sign back in. But how many times should one be doing that? I have to keep opening the app because I use it for work. So I can’t miss out on an actual message

With the advent of chats all seems to have become confusing.
The fact that there is no extension made for chrome makes it even more difficult to use.
The popout app made for chrome makes the system slow.

Google needs to get its act together if it is to compete with Slack and others. Even though this is free we went and pay for another app. That is how terrible this is. It is gross misread of the purpose of chat in the business context. The UX is so horrendous, some geeky antisocial engineer seems to have devised it.

Chat is just one more cousin of Hangouts and an extension of your email. It’s as boring as it is.
The page is heavy, it gives you a feel of dragging the application. Interference and UI is just ok.
Mobile application is slightly better than a web application.

We are currently using Skype for team chat, and Microsoft is going ahead on Microsoft Teams. Compare to Microsoft Team, google chat is still much behind. Actually we want to use Google chat, but it is not enough convenient and user friendly compare to Microsoft teams. I think google must think for this competition seriously. We are Gsuite users for 90 users, and currently have to think to switch to Microsoft 365. But still we will wait for next near about 2 months.

The App is awesome with some very fundamental features for communication between teams. Creating rooms for different purposes or departments make things very convenient.
Still, 3 stars for a great beginning but the app definitely has lots of features to be added. With the power of Google lots is still to come. Like integrating Google Drive, Photos etc. Google tasks to create self ToDo or shared ToDo with team members.
I am sure we will soon have these features onboard and at that point will not hesitate to review 5 stars.

Bug: when trying to see new messages that have posted to a room, it lands on random messages and requires a lot of scrolling to get to the latest threads.
Splitting the individual chats from rooms is a real productivity killer, now just to see all new messages I have to do twice the work. This is horrible from a quick glance perspective.
