Truly the best place for football journalism
There’s no doubt about it; the athletic is the final word in comprehensive and reliable football news. Most of the long reads are really illuminating.
Docking one star because the ability to resize text from the app is gone. Cannot say the reading experience is pleasurable at all.

Not worth the price except for football stories
I wanted a dedicated football only app with no ads and chose athletic because of reviews and paid an yearly subscription but this app doesn’t list and notify us about start of champion league or Europa league matches. Even worse is it doesn’t even list the matches. Apps like goal and ESPN fc though crap with ads helps me track matches. So if you are buying this app, it’s only for good stories and articles

Very intuitive, engaging along with deep thoughts. Every article is a read not to be missed. Editorials articulate insights, uncharted sporting aspects and of course my favourite tactical analysis of not just any particular matches/players/teams but situations, conditions, mental health and all that psychological aspects. Amazing!
To put it simply, there is no place like The Athletic which combines trustworthy quality journalism and a great app experience. They’ve been making steady updates and it’s really nice to see them paying attention to the product. It would be nice if we could have a nice community here around the team we support because open forums on the internet (Twitter, blogs etc) tend to have a lot of junk. Sensible opinions are few and far in between, and The Athletic’s subscription naturally wards off those who are purely interested in juicy tabloid headlines. Loving the content and loving the app. Well worth the price of admission!

Was experimenting with the teams to follow my feed, but it does not update the new selections/deselections. Other than that, class app and class journalism.

The Best Sports Media Outlet
Generally, I don’t have the time to write reviews due to my busy schedule. But got to give credit where it is due. The Athletic is by far and wide the best sports media outlet out there. Truly unparalleled.
Their long-form, short-form exemplary written articles brings about another news media outlet to mind that I enjoy reading a lot. Starts with an “At” - The Atlantic.
The coverage of The Athletic is simply jaw-dropping. The website and the app is minimalistic and intuitive.
It’s been a pleasure to have been a subscriber. Money well spent, oops, invested :)
If you are wondering, this ain’t a paid review. I am a subscriber and I am loving it.

Love it, but one thing needs to change
I love the app. I love the articles. And I love reading about everything that’s football on The Athletic. However I like to read articles from the past as well. Articles that may have been written when I didn’t have a subscription to the app or articles that I missed. Can you please make it such that it shows more than 30 results when you search something? Especially when if you search about a player and articles show up that have nothing to do with that player but happen to mention his name in passing. It really dilutes the pool. Perhaps a “tags” like system shall work. Just make it so that you can see older articles. Thank you.

Brilliant, thoroughly researched, well written long-form, original articles. For football, North American sports only though. No ads & good old fashioned newspaper-like writing. Worth the money.

If you’re tired of the gesticulating droll that is ESPN and click bait of Onefootball please pay some cash and get this app. One word of advise to the developers - please add the ability to justify text like it would be on an ebook reader my OCD hates that it’s out of alignment
