The expressions given in each language are not literal translations from another language; they are the expressions that would normally be used in particular situations that people find themselves in when traveling. The translators, all of whom are professionals, have not always chosen the grammatically closest translation, because that would not necessarily be the one used most often when you’re there!
Here’s a very simple example: in French, the phrase ‘please’ is often used when making a request, but it’s quite different in Finnish and in most of the Asian languages.

Perfect for learning languages. I don't know why no one rated this at all. One of the best apps along with Duolingo.
The advantage over Duolingo is the fact that you can listen to it and learn, and everyday phrases are given for use in the country of the language's origin.
Highly recommend.
