This is not an 80s album but this is the pinnacle of what Maiden have been trying to achieve in the post reunion era.
This is the most number of Steve Harris songs we have had in a long time and he has produced some masterpieces. The Parchment has some beautiful riffs and hypnotic vocal lines and six guitar solos! It is one more gem that Harris has added to long list of classics. Hell on Earth is so damn good it sends you to that next level of euphoric state that Maiden fans are familiar with. Really powerful riffs and one of the most memorable Iron Maiden choruses of all time with some emotional, meaningful lyrics. If this is to be the last album, Hell on Earth is a worthy song to end this beyond legendary discography with.
There’s not a single bad song on the album. Death of the Celts is Clansman part 2 but has its own identity. The Time Machine has one of the most euphoric moments on the album that will make the crowd go crazy live. The title song sounds different from anything Maiden but is an epic in the true sense of the word. There are a couple of short, fast ones in Stratego and Days of Future Past. There’s a slower ballad with beautiful solos from Adrian and Dave in The Darkest Hour.
Nicko sounds phenomenal on the drums. Bruce still has it and although his voice strains on the highest bits, he adds more versatility to his singing than before. Adrian is on fire on this album and Dave also has some really good solos. Janick has his moments to shine too.
