A newly experimental period begins with the freer rhythmic explorations of Miles Smiles. With Bitches Brew, he brings the innovations of Hendrix and Sly into his newly aggressive mix. By 1972's On the Corner it was all about rhythm, with Miles taking new cues from minimalist European composers and British progressive rock.
