Uttam Singh’s National and Filmfare Award-winning soundtrack for cult favourite Dil To Pagal Hai takes full advantage of the classic pairing of Lata Mangeshkar and Udit Narayan. There’s the romantic two-part ode “Are Re Are”, the fervent, mandolin-backed “Bholi Si Surat” and charming folk title track “Koi Ladki Hai”. Elsewhere, the twinkling, melancholy duet “Ek Duje Ke Vaaste” sees Hariharan and Mangeshkar soar to epic heights. There’s experimentation, too: “The Dance of Envy” uses classical Indian and Western sounds to illustrate the two protagonists' contrasting personalities and worldview.
