Bringing spirit and verve to this Desi whodunit, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy combine modern and traditional influences—with some straight-up quirky lyrics from Gulzar. A few of the many highlights include the Punjabi club anthem “Nach Baliye”, rap track “B ‘n’ B” by Blaaze, the buoyant “Dhadak Dhadak”—which cleverly employs the chug of a train for its bass line—and the gentle, romantic duet “Chup Chup Ke”. But it’s the seductive, breathy vocals of Alisha Chinai (singing for the ever-graceful Aishwarya Rai) that make “Kajra Re” the album’s irresistible signature hit.
