Don’t mistake Return of the Super Ape for a mere sequel to Perry’s 1976 classic Super Ape; it's a strange, dubby beast of its own. The mix of sweet female harmonies and alien bass on “Dyon-Anaswa” is delectably effervescent, though the tingly bells of “Psyche & Trim” conjure up a humid feeling of darkness. “Bird in Hand” transforms a classic Bollywood song into a swampy lurch, and “Jah Jah Ah Natty Dread” rides a runaway drum machine into the deepest recesses of Scratch’s mind.
