An eclectic, collaboration-centric EP from the Texan act

No small factor in Grupo Frontera’s música mexicana come-up has been their collaborative savvy. Whether they’re teaming with genre contemporaries like Fuerza Regida and Tito Double P or branching out with the likes of Bad Bunny and Romeo Santos, the Texas-based band’s ability to bring other artists into the sonic space—and vice versa—assuredly helped bring them in front of larger and larger audiences. For the EP-length Y Lo Que Viene, they proceed to hone that proven formula further, teaming up with old friends and new ones alike. One of their most frequent studio partners, Carín León, revives the bold energy of their prior joint cuts with the embittered, heartbroken opener “Mutuo”. Substantially more sorrowful is “La Buena Eras Tú”, which adds Neton Vega to amplify the boozy longing for a one-time love. On “¿Qué Haces Por Acá?” Tamaulipas’ own Mister Chivo helps to celebrate the victory of a new romance in the face of an ex, while Manuel Turizo shares in romantic regrets on "La Del Proceso”.
