Tender ballads and a stomping anthem for the sequel to the 2001 sensation

In 2001, Hindi action blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (Mutiny: A Love Story in English) was a smash-hit success. More than two decades later, its sequel drops the ‘love story’ subtitle but its soundtrack remains equally romantic, with melodious ballads rendered by playback stars like Arijit Singh. Music director Mithoon’s recreations of the soulful “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava” (and its haunting reprise) as well as the raucous “Main Nikla Gaddi Leke”—both big hits from the first film—are sure-fire highlights; he artfully retains their essence with the original singers and lyrics, but the modern production renders them even more evocative.
