Meditative and triumphant songs drive the Tamil historical drama

Prolific composer A.R. Rahman crafts an epic journey with his soundtrack for the sequel to Ponniyin Selvan. There are moments of haunting sadness and intense joy throughout—alongside a magical, spiritual atmosphere. The maestro works with a battalion of stars to make each of the seven tracks shine, be it singers Shankar Mahadevan and K.S. Chithra adding depth to “Veera Raja Veera” or Shakthisree Gopalan lending her sublime vocals to “Aga Naga”. Traditional instruments only add to the ambience, highlighted in the bittersweet “Chinnanjiru Nilave” and the brooding, sombre “Ilaiyor Soodaar”.
