India’s indie star untangles life over bright, glimmering pop

Often confessional and intimate, Prateek Kuhad builds on his strengths on his second full-length, The Way That Lovers Do. Spacey synths, drum-machine beats, soft percussion and string arrangements all emerge from the singer-songwriter’s craft as he showcases a poppier style of songwriting. “All I Need” makes candid statements of passion (“I wanna see your perfect body right beside me, baby”) while “Hollow” is a dream-pop descent into heartbreak. Acoustic-tinged indie rock is still crucial to his sound, as the jaunty “Favorite Peeps” and longing “Co2” demonstrate, but resolute pop songs like “Face” and “Just A Word” allow him to experiment with his vocals and expression.
