The film-maker celebrates perseverance power on a female-led OST

Hindi cinematic polymath, writer/director/producer/composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, gathers a set of vintage sounds for the biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi. He transports us to a bygone era through Hindustani classical (“Jab Saiyaan”), Gujarati folk (“Dholida”, “Jhume Re Gori”) and qawwali (“Shikayat”) forms, all while showcasing stellar female voices like Shreya Ghoshal and Neeti Mohan. The soundtrack’s celebration of real-life female perseverance includes rapturous ensemble tunes that may soon become staples at dandiya and sangeet celebrations.
