A. R. Rahman’s soundtrack to Mani Ratnam's Alaipayuthey is an award-winning one, thanks in no small part to Rahman's experimentations with traditional Carnatic sounds. This modernisation is found in S. P. B. Charan's crooning on the funky, bass-led "Kadhal Sadugudu", and on the up-to-date arrangement of Carnatic elements on "Snehidhane" part one and two. Elsewhere, an orchestra backs Asha Bhosle's dance track "September Madham", and the title song is a reimagined classical hymn underscored by a contemporary beat.
