The band electrify every tune with a mix of urgency and rage

With their ReAniMate series, Halestorm prove they can take any tune and turn it into raging rock ‘n’ roll. Not that all their picks need much help; their take on “I Hate Myself For Loving You” just maxes out the overdrive and retains the spirit and snarl of Joan Jett’s original. But they lend songs like Sophie B. Hawkins’ “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” an extra level of urgency with a deft use of dynamics played for maximum drama.
