Pop-friendly reggae crew keep the vibe slow and steady, warm and deep

Set to snappy hooks and slinking rhythms, Logan Bell’s soul-cultivated vocal smoothness completes the package on Katchafire’s amiable fourth album. The New Zealand ensemble mix it up, too, milking low-slung organ and horns on “Irie”, while Bell waxes both romantic (“One Stop Shop”) and spiritual (“Seek Ye”). Highlights like the infectious “Sweet As” evoke leisurely summer days. Yet, even when the band pick up the pace on “Groove Again” and “Serious”, that added perkiness never comes at the expense of the album’s immersive island vibes.
